Has anyone gotten an online certificate for Medical Coding and Billing and gotten a job?

My stepmom works as a manager for medical billing. I asked her this same question and she advised against it. She said that it is a broad overview of all medical billing and it would be still entry level regardless. She said I would be better off walking in an office and train from there, but that medical billing from home is slim to none.
