I mean he watches TV. Entire programs.
Sometimes I feel like I am bothering him when I want to play. :-)
What do you think is actually going on in his noggin?

Quick movement? Maybe, something to chase? Did you see the movie “UP”? “Squirrel!”
He is not chasing. He is chilling out and totally focused.
Is it one particular show? My guess is that they have a really difficult time understanding that what’s going on isn’t real, so maybe he’s grown an attachment to one of the characters on a show. Just a guess. My cat really likes Seinfeld. I think he has a crush on Elaine.
“maybe he’s grown an attachment to one of the characters on a show”
Please wait till I am done drinking before you say that! LOL
He has a very broad appreciation for programming.
But he does get excited when people fight or scream. He hates violence.
haha ok, so it probably isn’t an attachment, but I’m sure it is very confusing for them :)
Well. I’m sure the dog is wondering how all those people got in the big box :)
my dog watches tv. I think it is kinda weird. She whined at me when I changed the channel. She was really into the Criminal Minds. So now we watch it everyday. I don’t know what is going on in her head. But I am baffled.
Wholy crap!
Jack (name of dog) luv’s Criminal Minds!
Well at least Jack has good taste. I love Criminal Minds too.
Haha that’s funny my aunts dog is obbsesed with animal planet when it’s on you can’t pull her away from it and she licks the t.v screen when a dog comes on…one of my dogs is seriously racist!
Everytime a black guy comes on T.V he barks like crazy and growls…these dogs are both hearders..australlian shepard and the racist dog :( a blue healer I wonder how they can actually even see the T.V screen…
The only time I get a reaction from my dog from the TV is when a damn doorbell rings then he has to bark and growl for several minutes.
I wonder why they like certain programs. Criminal Minds is an odd choice for a canine. My dog hates Animal Planet. He just barks and barks and barks at it. He also hates the news, but loves watching Sports Center.
It is amazing what a dog will settle for when nobody takes him for a walk.
It probably depends on what the dog is watching. For instance, if it’s Fox News, the dog is probably in a state of gibbering idiocy.
Maybe the dog is thinking about how to pitch HIS next series idea.
He is waiting patiently for FiFi to make another appearance on the screen. i thought everyone knew this.
I wonder if the ones who like Criminal Minds may actually be enjoying the VOICE of one of the characters. Since their hearing is so much more sessitive than ours, there may just be a particular tone of voice which appeals to them.
My guess would be Thomas Gibson (Hotch) as he has a mellifluous voice with a nice timbre to it. Soothing and calm.
Try the dog out on some Dharma and Greg reruns. If he enjoys those also, mystery solved :)
If not…...?
“My balls itch.”
oh wait. that’s me.
What’s going on in your dog’s head – as he tries to watch the end of the program – and yet you insist on trying to make him play is – Nudnik.
My dog likes dog training videos. She thinks they are like exercise videos. She always tries to join in the fun! :)
Here’s what’s going on in his head.
rower rawer rrrarrar bbbbrurwa. rr. rrw. rr. rrww. bwrrrr. wwr. nmf. nmf. wtf! nmfnmf! nuh, nuh, nuh, nuh, AR! AR! AR!!
wtf?
AR!
in other words, almost exactly what comes out his mouth.
p.s. As in any other language, it makes more sense if you sound it out.
I don’t think there is much going on his head apart from his brain processing the images he sees and the sound he hears. Many dogs watch TV because they are imitating their owners. When they see humans sitting down staring at that box, it’s natural they will do the same too.
The TV stimulates his brain because of the fast pace images and sound, so it’s expected he is “interested” by it and sits there chilled and focused, as you say.
My Staffordshire Bull Terrier does exactly the same and yet none of my other dogs do. It’s quite amusing to see how focused she is on it!
@HTDC – Now that was one thing I was considering.
Jack watches me staring at the TV and got into the habit of staring also.
But if I make a comment like, “Hey look at that toaster oven on HSN!” He checks it out.
Buy the way. All good stuff people! Totally cracking me up. :-)
He’s just messin with you…all dogs do that. He’s dissin you for not taking him to the dog park more.
@Cruiser – I seem to be getting a lot of that perspective.
He has keys to the car.
@BoBo1946 My dog jumped up to watch that video! She kept turning her head from side to side.
@chyna really, that is cool…glad it was some help to someone!
My papillon loves to watch tv, his favorites are cartoons, which is great because I love cartoons, his favorites are Family Guy and South Park. He also enjoys watching the news, CNN and NYC7…. he’s an odd dog as it is. I think he likes them because he can cuddle up with me and maybe some of the voices are interesting to him, also the movements. I watch his eyes and he follows the characters on the shows movement….
My papillon puppy also likes to watch TV. She is really into the Transformers movie, she stares at the screen without moving and when there is an explosion or a large flash she nods her head.
