Cuba: One of the first countries to offer aid, Cuba offered to send 1,586 doctors and 26 tons of medicine. This aid was rejected by the State Department. sigh
Was this a precursor to an argument about the US sending aid when no one sends us any?
@johnpowell Maybe 1,586 Cuban doctors offered to come but once here I seriously doubt they would have gone back.
Israel, whose mandate and mission in Haiti right now – with a contingency of 120 Doctors and Nurses, is always one of the first to send aid. The per capita of Doctors in Israel is the highest in the world, and the Jews believe that if you save one human’s life, it is like saving an entire nation. Any nation. That is why even in Gaza, after an attack (after another launch of rockets into Israel’s civillian territory, it will then rescue, aid and ultimately release anyone injured – including terrorists. (Most of the time they’d rather just stay in Israel).
The USA government failed to follow through on its offers of aid!
@Pretty_Lilly The USA government under “W” preferred that Americans die rather than have Cuban doctors come to their aid! Way to go dummy!
@Pretty_Lilly :: Because the United States is Super Fucking Awesome? Well, I guess they are doctors so the healthcare thing isn’t much of a concern for them.
A lot of people did. Surprising ain’t it.
The UK sent food aid but the US refused to accept it.
Apparantly a great deal of aid supplies were never distributed by US agencies. They were allowed to pile up at a recieving point in Arkansas.
@johnpowell Yeah, I completely agree. Healthcare is obviously a total non–issue in the USA.
@Pretty_Lilly Cuban doctors work tirelessly all over the developing world, with ample opportunity to skip town, so your theory is pretty cynical.
This list is so weird!!!!! Apparently we tried not to accept help from France… then changed our minds? And Kuwait gave us $500 MILLION? Bizarre.
As I recall Venezuela and I believe China tried to help. Bush refused. He figured “Brownie” had a good handle on things.
