What does is mean when a guy winks at you?
I was being teased by two guys in my class at college the other day, I rolled my eyes at them and looked away, and caught the eye of another guy in my class. He smiled and winked at me, then said something to his friend. What does the wink mean?
By the way, I don’t fancy this guy, so no answers saying “wink back if you like him” etc.
Also, can I have serious answers, please? No stupid comments. Thanks :)
Yes, I’m a girl.

He was flirting with you.
It can only mean 3 things——1) he’s got something in his eye , 2) he’s joking with me, or 3) he’s gay. Hopefully it’s the first reason! Lol. (wink)
I agree with Holden. I also think he was trying to show you he did not support those guys who were teasing you. He could be a good friend to have in a hostile environment. You don’t have to fancy him as a boyfriend to benefit from a friendship with a decent guy.
if your a girl, he is definetly flirting with you. Unless of course you are both spies, then it means do the exact opposite of what he just said.
Dustin Hoffman winked at me when I was in my thirties and passed him on Fifth Ave. I didn’t need to deconstruct the moment.
I think he is flirting…or in some cases, just being friendly, if he winks at everybody, but usually its flirting. I always wink back. Its cute.
If you read this question, and plan on posting a sarcastic or unhelpful answer, please, don’t bother. Thanks.
And thank you to those of you who have given a helpful, genuine answer, and the people who plan on doing so. Much appreciated :) x
When a girl winks at a guy, it could mean a hundred different things. It could mean that she is in on the joke with you, or that it reminds her of home, or light flirting, or a friendly gesture that really doesn’t mean anything.
When a guy winks at a girl, it means he wants to have sex with you.
Same thing if he opens a door for you, laughs at your jokes, or says you smell nice.
Guys are pigs.
Perhaps he was acknowledging some kind of understanding or inside joke that you didn’t know anything about.
He was letting you know he was on your side in thinking the other 2 guys were being jerks.
gailcalled – Your answer is totally unhelpful and pointless. Obviously you ‘didn’t need to deconstruct the moment’ because your situation was completely different. In future, think about your answers before you post them. You might be surprised, people generally aren’t that dumb that they ask questions that they don’t want an answer to.
@gailcalled OK, fair enough, just don’t appreciate the sarcasm – not helpful.
@AnonymousGirl10: No one here can be clairvoyant. You’ve had lists of choices; an eyelash in his eye, a way to be nice, a way to flirt, a secret code…how can anyone know? Are you looking for compliments?
Keep in mind that I never use sarcasm… here or anywhere else.
Step 1: Buy kneepads.
Step 2: Relax lower jaw.
Step 3: Obvious at this point.
@gailcalled Isn’t the point of asking a question ON HERE to get a list of answers? And no, I’m not looking for compliments, I hate them, I’m looking for answers – again, the point of ASKING A QUESTION. Just stay off my question page, and let’s avoid arguing, I can’t be bothered and I don’t know you. I just want answers to my question, that’s all.
how long is a piece of string? no, I am not being sarcastic, I just think that you would have a better idea than anybody because you were actually there the moment “The Wink” happened.
No doubt: F-L-I-R-T-I-N-G!!!
Just realised I put ‘what does IS mean’ instead of it*...oops!
@AnonymousGirl10 You should know that @gailcalled is one of the more sincere, honest and thoughtful people you could get to know here. You two may have gotten off to a poor start but if you are at all mature or wise you will not dismiss her.
Her point seeks to be that a wink is a wink and in the absence of more information, no specific answer about his intended meaning can be made with any confidence by any of us.

Well, if you don’t like him and don’t intend to like him, I don’t think I should answer the Q
It’s flirting and it could mean fun friendly flirting or flirting with attraction behind it.
Dust can cause eye irritation.
Well it sounds like generic eye-twitch flirting.
Or maybe it’s how he generally greets people,
or maybe he knows something you don’t.
Humans are weird.
This happened to me is is well.
