Can you think of a way for the guy in the movie "No Man's Land" to be saved?

Asked by Sebulba (892points) January 17th, 2010

I am talking about this movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283509/ in which a poor guy is trapped in an unexpected and uncommon way. I spent a lot of hours thinking what could be done for the soldier to be saved and i am not pleased with the solutions came up with. Come on flutherers give ideas!
note: if you haven’t seen the movie it’s worth seeing for sure…here is a list of the awards http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283509/awards
including an oscar , a cannes festival and 25 more

@Sebulba I just watched that film recently, it was really good. I’m not sure how the guy could be saved though.

As a combat engineer, I’m reasonably certain that if I could identify the type of mine, I could render it safe. All of the mines used in that conflict were standard Soviet types. The most difficult part is getting a good look at the trigger mechanism. A bit of wire, a metal shim, a piece of electrical tape…voila!

In the movie an engineer that supposed to specialize in such matter examines the mine and states that nothing can be done. So i am really thinking and looking for another answer besides the “rendering the mine safe” way

@Sebulba That’s the story gimmick. In real life there is always a way. The actor was not doing what a real engineer would do. If he did, the story wouldn’t work though.
