Can all species grow them back or just specific types?
Or any at all?

Some species clearly do, idk about all, but judging it based on the commonality between the mechanism it seems likely most would be able to if they can survive long enough.

Not all species of crab grow them back. Stone crabs do.

So you could just keep a crab in a tank at home and rip it’s claws off every once and a while and have all you can eat crab.

I know some of them can, not sure if all. Another interesting thing about some (if not all) crabs is that they will have one large claw for fighting other crabs while the second claw is small, for eating. They can’t really eat with the big claw, so if they lost their small claw they’d be screwed. It seemed that at least this one type of crab I was looking at had some that had the big claw on the left hand side while others had it on the right hand side – one was more common than the other but I dont remember which.

it is a deformity in the genes of the crabs ancestors. some species are supposed to do that
