Spring is just around the corner. what will be your first move to celebrate blue skies and warm sunshine?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) January 18th, 2010

I have had it with cold, wet dreary skies. i have frozen my rear off. i am going to have to take out a loan to pay the electric bill. just the thought of spring brightens my day. i think my first sunny spring day will be dedicated to my automobile. it has suffered through ice, snow and salty roads and deserves a lot of attention. “wash me” has been inscribed at least four times on my car. is this a hint? what will be your first move for spring?

Looking for the pussy willow catkins.
Stewing the first few stalks of Rhubarb, and eating it.
Rediscovering my snowdrops and crocus.
Taking a walk without the worry of falling on the ice.

Tidying my garden, planting seeds in the greenhouse and perhaps if it is a particularly nice day… a barbecue!!! I can’t wait for the better weather.

Same thing I look forward to every year, being able to continually fill and re fill my back garden with row after row of lovely fresh laundry. There is something wonderful about drying clothes bedding etc outside rather than in the tumble dryer, bliss!! One of my favourite things in the world is lines of hubby’s white shirts all dancing in the breeze :-)
My friend mimmy always says that a good day is wasted on me, that I’d be better occupied finding a good book and sitting in the garden but I couldn’t bear to waste a good drying day like that lol.
hugs everyone xx

@john65pennington: Just what corner are you living around? We have three more months of winter in a good year. I have, however, been drooling over the WhiteFlower Farm catalog.

Weeding.

Organic vegetable gardening, bicycling and walking barefoot in the grass, . . . not in any particular order and not necessarily all at the same time. ;)

My first move will be to change out my winter colors for spring ones around the house. I put out eggshell blue and sunny yellows. I put the winter afghans away and break out light summer ones.

It is not just around the corner here in Boston. Like Gail said, there are about 3 months to go.

Here in DC there’s almost- springtime weather right now. It got up to the low 50s today. Spring itself could be here as early as late February if we’re lucky. I’ll celebrate spring by having fun in the outdoor spaces in the city, like going to parks with my friends, going to the farmers market on weekend mornings, biking, and barbecuing. I’ll also be outside more at night. One of my favorite things to do is smoke hookah on the outdoor patio of this one place, and I love going to the Georgetown waterfront very late at night. It’s so fun to have this busy urban place all to yourself because it’s so late.

I am VERY sick and tired of the cold! nightime is the worst and it stays cold at night for about 9 months out of the year. Although the climate here is pretty mild we have had a whopper of a winter so far. Arctic temperatures and just miserable conditions around the colorado area. So in spring I plan on taking walks with my girlfriend and just getting outside and enjoying the warm weather when I don’t have to work.

@lucillelucillelucille Do you grow your own plants? Have a greenhouse?
