Is there anyone else that didn't particularly enjoy "Up in the Air?"?

In general, I’m impressed by George Clooney. His performance in Up in the Air is not the issue. The film itself seems to have been blown way out of proportion in terms of critical acclaim.
Personally, I was left quite empty by the film. It has its moments, to be sure, but it didn’t come off as profound social commentary.
Maybe I missed the point of the film?

Well, it wasn’t supposed to be profound social commentary—on the contrary, it was a mini-commentary on the emptiness of a busy man’s life, which in turn was supposed to leave YOU feeling empty. Personally, I was moved by it—by the irony of Clooney’s character realizing how lonely he was only when he fell in love with a woman he couldn’t have—and woman who merely “played” in the lonely world Clooney inhabited. I think it’s possible that one’s age has something to do with how he/she feels about this movie.

A very well thought-out and insightful response.
Yes raising hand excitedly, late 30s
Not only do I feel that the critical acclaim overshadowed every element (acting, directing, screenplay, plot) of the film, but I was also disgusted by how prominently the Hilton brand figured into the story line. Clooney is an incredibly talented actor, director and writer, however this film did not IMHO merit all the buzz it has received.
