What is the best ski school for kids in the Lake Tahoe area?

Asked by shilolo (18085points) January 18th, 2010

I’m planning a winter ski trip to Lake Tahoe and want to introduce my son, who is an active and athletic 3 year old, to skiing. Can anyone suggest a good ski school in Tahoe? I want a program where I can drop him off and he’ll have some fun (and learn to ski) while I can go off for a while then ski with him later. I know most major resorts have this, but I would like to hear some personal experiences if possible.

@Marina I’ve seen review sites, but I’m looking for direct experiences. Thanks though.

From my experience Northstar at Tahoe has a decent ski school. I’ve never been in it myself, but a friend has, and he said it was helpful and the instructors were nice. If anything, the terrain is very kid-friendly.

Try Diamond Peak at Incline Village.
It is smaller than the more well known so it is not as crowded. The ski school for kids is very good, and the prices are very reasonable. There are some good black diamond and intermediate runs as well as a couple of “bunny” slopes. It has a good lodge and and the views are great!!!

I’m with Dverhey, my cousins (5, 7, 9, 11) all take lessons at Northstar and compete on the racing teams – they love it!

Also, they’ve got lots of “paw parks” I think they’re called, little woodsy trick courses for kids that are totally fun. I skied through a log cabin tunnel on one, it was totally fun :)
