Do SRO's (school resource officers) play a big part in protecting your child at school?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) January 19th, 2010

In my state, SROs are police officers assigned to different schools for the safety of the students. this takes manpower off the streets. do you think SROs are effective in deterring crime in schools? what is your opinion and can you give some examples of what would occur, if SROs cease to exist in public schools?

They play a big part at either protecting them or locking them up.

hell yeah they do – kids think twice about commiting crimes at school becuse of those men and woman – my sro in highschool was the man!! he always had nice things to say to me even though i was always in trouble he was the only one that would find something good to say. sro’s can do alot of good for the world by being a goood example to follow – i hope that sro’s don’t give up on these kids like alot of people in thier life will

Our SRO didn’t give a shit about us.

Our truancy [spelling?] officer went to great lengths to catch us skipping, though.
He’d hide behind bushes, fences, under cars and just be completely creepy. Needless to say, if you wanted to leave school, you either had to be able to run or get in your car quick and leave.

The SRO that was at my school, he was really cool. He was there for us when we needed him. He took his job seriously. If it wasn’t for him, there would be several students who never would have made it through high school. He meant a lot to us and the school.
