No Show or Ruined Ballot? do you stay at home or make yourself heard?

Asked by Pcrecords (1436points) January 19th, 2010

regarding your voting habits, if you decided you had no clear choice or no wish to vote for an actual party would you stay at home or would you go to the polling station to wreck your ballot paper as a protest?

my take is that to turn up and wreck the paper at least sends a message whereas not turning up leads to standard lines of “Voter Apathy” “Bad Weather” “Good Weather” etc etc that usually gets banded around…

I vote for a third party (Libertarian) that has no chance of winning at a national level. It is the equivalent of a spoiled ballot, I suppose. At the state level, we occaisionally win local elections.

I’d go and vote for the best choice. Or at least who I think would be the best choice. When the election is over I don’t want to feel like I threw away a vote.

I’ve never actually had to wreck a ballot, but if I felt there was really no choice I’d at least show up and wreck it.

I’ve finished a lot of ballots with votes in only some of the races because I either couldn’t decide or hadn’t gathered enough information about the others.
