Know any blogs to help me create a travel bucket list?

Asked by metadog (381points) January 21st, 2010

Hi! I really want to create a list of places to go before I kick the bucket. I was thinking that photo-centric travel blogs would be a good place to look. Do you know any good blogs that possibly span the globe? Thanks!

I have a hard time understanding why people make lists like this. When you visit a place, it can change you, and then your whole list goes out the window or gets rearranged. I mean, if you really want to do something do you really need to write it down to remember that? I think your time would be better spent taking a trip and seeing where that leads you.

I like to do a little research before I go some place. I’m not the type who throws a dart at a map. So what if my list changes over time. That is my choice to make.

Yeah, I like to do research too. I pick a place I want to go, research it to death, and then go. I meet all kinds of people that tell me all kinds of things about other places, which I then look into, and sometimes visit. It is a cyclical process I guess. I’m not saying you can’t have a list, I’m just saying you don’t need one. You don’t need to have a deeper reason to visit a place than the fact that you love falafels. When people write these blogs, a lot of times they are promotional tools to increase tourism to an area. They are often trying to sell you an experience that isn’t all that authentic. Everyone is different in what they like, what they want, what they’re interested in. You know yourself best and what you are looking for. It’s hard to recommend sites without knowing anything about you.

The point being that I am trying to figure out what is “out there.” I’m not well traveled and I need to figure out where to start. Just humor me, ok?

Something fun you could do to come up with places (or the way I came up with a few for my bucket list) is to take a glob and spin it (picture wheel of fortune, lol), close your eyes and stop the globe with index finger. Whereever your finger lands, do a bit of research about that country/city/etc and if you like the sound of its history, modern day festivals, culture, etc add it to the list.
