What's your take on Dreams being connected to your reality?

Asked by Middle_Class_American (251points) January 21st, 2010

At first, I thought the idea of dreams having anything to do with your reality was a bunch of hogwash. But after analyzing some of the vivid dreams Ive been having recently I am discovering ways that they are connected to my life. While I do NOT believe that they tell the future, I think they may reveal things about ourselves indirectly.

The dream you talk of, is that from the sleepy state? . . . or is this like an aspiration of the future?

For me, sometimes little bits of dreams will render themselves into life at some time in the future. There is no way for me, though, to tell which parts they will be or when they will happen or under what circumstances, but there is always something that, when happens in real life, reminds me of something I’ve dreamed about.

They would sometimes appear to tell my future….

But in very small ways. Like I’ll have a dream, and something about it will stick out in my memory, then a lot of time passes and one day I find myself seeing exactly what I dreamed. It is very much like a deja vu except that I dreamt it, not experienced it, before.

It’s not so much one dream I had as it is many dreams that contain places and events that leave me wondering.
For example, getting lost in a familiar place that suddenly drastically changes up on me
or people I know well and see in everyday life suddenly become other people that I don’t know well or don’t know at all.

I guess for the most part the one key word Ive been getting from a lot of my dreams is “Change” but in my dreams they seem so sudden and erratic.

@lilikoi I have the same experiences all the time.

I don’t buy it. To me, dreams simply mean I am asleep, nothing more.

Of course dreams are part of one’s reality. One’s dreams are part of one’s self, therefore both are part of that individual’s reality.

Dreams are from the subconscious, and dreams reveal parts of what’s down there. The subconscious is a huge, but little accessed part of an individual, and dreams are one of the more common ways the subconscious becomes visible for a little while.

@Spinel Very true. Psychology and dreams are highly interesting subjects. I seek to learn more about them in the future.

Dreams are simply mixed up versions of what’s left over in your short term memory. Pretty much it’s just a big jumble of your thoughts just before you fall asleep.

This can sometimes be a representation of events in your life, since some people are odd enough to think about their lives before they go to sleep.

I dream pieces and parts of what happened that day. It doesn’t tell the future nor does it explain my… emotions or whatever.

Dreams sometimes reveal issues that concern you or feelings about people you have nor explored while awake. Sometimes they are just random images linked together in unexpected ways. If analysing the content gives you useful insights, then great. If they mean nothing then they don’t look for secret insights that may not be there.

If and when it happens then it’s a reality.
