Build a fort! – always build a fort!...in fact, build multiple forts.

Take them shopping. :-)

I can’t take them shopping there is really bad weather and snow, raining and stuff…there isnt alot of snow to go build a snow man though….

Cook or bake something? Perhaps some kind of regional food. Then enjoy it!

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@wilma , maybe I do that..but what should we bake?

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@Thesexier why fluffy muffins or poodle cookies with bows on ‘em…sorry I am being facetious…it’s time we do something else with girls other than shopping or cooking or brushing their hair

Ha! Well, just make them feel comfortable and let them look around a bit. You can ask them what they might like to do or see. They will probably be glued to the TV for a while. Don’t feel you need to be responsible for their entertainment, but you can suggest a few things, like a good TV program, or…food…all kids are interested in food. You might let them decide what kind of new food they would like to try. (smile)

Thats a big age difference in what the 12 year old might like and the 6 years old might like. if you have a red box dvd rental(at McDonalds) take them there and let each one pick out a movie that they want to watch. this is entertaining for them for at least 4 hours.

@Thesexier Cookies I think are the most fun, but whatever you like to do would be best for you.

I like to cook and bake, and do it with my sons all the time, so I don’t see it as stereotypical at all.

My grown son has thanked me often for teaching him how to cook.

I hear they’re yummeh. Stick ‘em in a pot, but make sure they don’t push you in the oven like Hansel and Gretel did!

What about a movie? If there’s nothing in the theater, you can rent one.

@wilma cooking, in general, as a process has nothing to do with gender…assuming, however (and forgive me, I didn’t mean you in particular) that girls will like baking just because is stereotypical

Board games, manicures, movies, cookies, popcorn, fake tattoos. Let them give you a makeover, or try some home science experiments.

Take a quick drive to the library, if you can, and check out the Artemis Fowl books. You and the 12 year old can read them out loud to the six year old. The books are hilarious, and both girls will like them. Other book series to look into would be The Frog Princess (which is not the Disney version), the Clarice Bean books, or anything by Roald Dahl. They might also like the Percy Jackson books (the first in that series is called The Lightning Thief).

Have fun!

How long are they staying and why should you have to do anything? Maybe just go with the flow? Plan to go to the zoo or something?

Hide the weed.

hahah they are almost leaving…the parents, the 6 year old one, but the 12 year is staying tonight for mom doing her hairD;

@Simone_De_Beauvoir no offense taken. :) I’m not a sports kind of gal, so I do (did) what I know how to do with my boys and my girls. Science experiments, (very much like cooking) were also on my list of things to do with kids.

Hmm. I’m a lousy cook. I guess that explains why I sucked in organic chem lab, too!

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@Dr_Dredd no it doesn’t, I was a whiz at orgo chem but I suck at cooking

Dr_Dredd's avatar

Ah, well. There goes that theory.

Look at www.familyfun.com. This is the web page for a really great magazine with lots of activities and craft ideas to do with kids. It’s also a great source costume ideas.

One thing you might want to do is pick some crafts and activities to teach them about your holidays.

How long are they staying?
