What can I do so my itouch won't run out of battery on a 2 hour driving trip?

Buy an inverter to plug into the cigarette lighter of your automobile, or other outlets if it has them, and plug your itouch into that. No need to use the battery at all.

I think @YARNLADY has a good point, those inverters are great, that way instead of buying a different DC adapter for every single electronic device you have, you can buy one inverter and plug ANYTHING into it that you can plug into a wall. I’m not sure what they cost, but I know I have 2 of them and I found them both for under $20, which is probably on the low end, but not impossible.

The other thing I might suggest, and I don’t have an iPod, but I do have a Zune and one thing I know I always do if I want my battery to last for a long time is to change the settings so the screen goes blank after 5 seconds. Then as long as I don’t touch it, since the screen is what uses more power than anything, I can play it for a very, very long time. Also, I looked at the specs online for the iPod touch, and it says the battery life on a full charge will last up to 30 hours of audio or 6 hours of video, so that pretty much says what I was saying, if you have the video screen on, it uses 5 times as much power, makes sense based on my experience with the Zune. Now these are maximum ever recorded with a brand new, fully charged battery, probably with the volume down, and definitely with the screen off. I’d say as long as you keep the screen off “most” of the time, and fully charge your battery beforehand, you should be able to last for 2 hours, I mean 30 is almost definitely an exaggeration, but not so much that you shouldn’t be able to get 2.

Now, if in your experience you are using your iPod without turning the screen on and you’re NOT getting 2 hours play time, I’m going to suggest that perhaps your battery is dying and it needs to be serviced.

If you have it set to“search for networks” it will be trying to connect with every wifi house you pass. Make sure you have that turned off.

Turn your brightness all the way off. Try not to push the click wheel alot either, if it’s better, just set the songs to shuffle.

This might be a daft answer but why not invest in a spare battery? that way you will always have a back-up. Unless it’s a battery you cant change…........... in that case DOH!
I tend to make sure I always have a spare for my Phone, digi Camera etc as well as in-car chargers – an inverter was a good idea from @YARNLADY and the other tips to prolong the battery life too.

You should be able to beat the shit out of it for two hours. Sounds like a new battery is needed. You can get kits for ten bucks.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! It’s “iPod touch” not “iTouch”.

you don’t need to buy an inverter – they make car chargers for them. and, as @johnpowell said, the battery life, even watching movies, with wifi on, etc. should be well over 2 hours.

if you want to extend the battery nonetheless, turn off wifi, turn off auto-brightness and set the screen to as low a screen brightness as you can.

Don’t use it.

Steps for long battery life:

1. Dim the backlighting to the lowest possible level (make sure you can still see it though)
2. Disable “Search for networks” in your network settings, and turn off wifi until you get to a place where you can take advantage of that feature.
3. Try to avoid excessively using 3rd party applications. For example, playing games will defiantly shorten the battery life but if you do, make sure to keep the backlighting low.
4. Keep it in sleep mode until you use it. Keeping the screen on will defiantly shorten battery life.
5. If you have a charger, keep that bad boy charging.

there are carchargers and if your outlet is not working for some reason there are items (i think called juicepacks) that directly attach to ur itouch and when your batery runs out it automatically charges from the juice pack. of course you have to charge both before setting out but that shouldnt be a problem. they run for about 70 bucks i think.

cheapest way would be wat @Tenpinmaster said. plus the car charger.

In my humble opinion, a portable backup battery is essential since owners can’t always rely on being close to a computer or electric power source. I just purchased the Just Mobile Gum Pro 4400mAh External Battery for Portable Devices from Amazon and I couldn’t be more satisfied.
