What is place of artist or drawing and painting in today's digital world?

Since computers are, now a days, commonly used everywhere; we can take print outs, photos, etc. very quickly than drawing and painting. So, what do you think is place of drawing and painting in today’s world?
I wonder, how do artists earn now? Or do they have to do something in computers (photoshop, illustrator, ..., web design, animation)?
I like drawing and painting personally, so I think it will survive as hobby at least. And, according to my knowledge (life) drawing is required in animation; and it’s easy sometimes to draw by hand than draw it on a computer using mouse (though stylus pens are there).
How do you perceive drawing/painting/artist in future? Will they survive?

hmm…maybe they still make money since computers are soooo common that an actuall manmade artpiece is more rare and there fore harder to get and expensive…i dont know, just my speculation.
There is a very big difference between easily being able to take a photo and print out and being able to make an interesting, thought provoking, image. There will still be artists, it’s just their tools will change.
Right at the very top in what will always remain their rightful place. Nothing beats the human touch when it comes to creativity.
@ucme i completely agree. direct human touch to material is something beautiful. get your hands off the keyboard and onto a paper.
I think it remains essentially unchanged, just like the high regard for handmade furniture, home-cooked and well-prepared locally grown food, and hand crafted jewelry.
@pdworkin yea, mass production for any line of products just makes the handmade ones much rarer and more valuable.
Computers make the art process very fun also, its like another world of art, it really is fun to use. it makes putting complicated pieces a lot easier to create, but if your not familiar with how to draw from scratch or paint from scratch you may not have a competative edge. ill never stop drawing because i think it just looks better. i have a mac in my recording studio and they come with media design programs, nothing too fancy but its enough to get an idea of how digital media can be fun, complicated, but awesome art also. i don’t think man made art will suffer i think it will get better.
People still want art that is done without the help of machinery:)
Art, by definition, was never borne out of necessity, nor bounded by practicality.
So, until our race is changed so much that it can no longer be considered human,
we will continue to create, without boundaries, simply for the sake of creation.
The act of creation brings us closer to the universe.
It is a homage paid to the beauty and grandeur of all existence.
Unchained creativity is a defining quality of higher consciousness,
and hence also of our humanity.
My husband makes a living as an artist, and he knows many people who do the same thing. He never thought he would make a career out of it, but his talents for drawing and painting turned into a successful decorative painting business. He does a lot of custom murals in both homes and businesses, but he also does faux finishes and things like woodgraining, marbelizing, and stuff like that. It’s really amazing, because there’s no limit to what he can do. If someone wants a mural of their family having a snowball fight with the family dog included, he can do it. If someone wants a huge mural of the Taj Mahal in their dining room, he can do it. Having something handpainted like that, in tones that coordinate with the rest of the room, is much different from just ordering a large print. It also pays our bills, so let’s all hope this kind of custom painting continues to be popular!
Paint itself was once thought to be the devil’s tool because it changed the way
people made images. Perspective, too. Time marches on. Fear not. At least,
if you gotta fear something, let it be stupidity, cupidity, John Roberts, and Osama
bin Laden, not MacPaint.
