Has the traffic on fluther slowed down recently?

Asked by wunday (759points) January 23rd, 2010

Is fluther is much slower now compared to a few weeks ago? Are there fewer questions and fewer users and fewer new users joining? If so, have you any idea why? Are there statistics on the number of active users and how often they ask questions or provide answers during any given period of time?

i was wondering the same thing a few days ago… but then i was thinking maybe i’m just spending too much time here. i wonder if it’s true!

There’s nothing publicly available but I would say the correct answer is nope! The recent growth has been pretty strong.

There is no such things as “too much” time on Fluther. Am I right?

@timtrueman Has the utilization then changed over to a different set of users?

It’s been a little more than a month since the great AB migration, and yeah, things do seem to have slowed down a bit. Maybe it just seems slower now because this place was very busy during that migration.

It had slowed back to what I consider a more normal level. I agree with @jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities that it is now returning to the norm from the AnswerBag migration.

Yes, of course the AB spike really was huge and things slowed down in the days follow that spike…but right now it’s back to steadily growing.

I’m liking the new slow clientèle ;-) whatever that is or means

It has slowed since the AB migration, but it is still steady growth. I use Ruby and Nokogiri to scrape stats from the Awards page. I’m a stats nerd. I use Sparkline to graph them. I would post links to the graphs and data if my hosting worked.

A lot of the former ABers have left, for reasons that are not totally clear to me. That is, I know they’ve left or just slowed down considerably, but I’m not really sure why. I think they find this site, as welcoming as it has been, not quite what they were looking for.

It seems to me that the people who are posting now are a lot different from those who were posting a month ago. The overall traffic may be growing steadily, but my question is whether the utilization is from different users.

@wundayatta I haven’t seen many of the daily users that were around a few months ago. It does seem that many of the regulars now are newer users.

There are still some people around who joined around the time of the AB influx and now that those uncomfortable with the fluther culture have withdrawn, I suspect that loyal jellies from the past will visit more often. Try PMing some of them with an update on the situation.

Here to stay, even if I am relatively new.

(thumping sound) Thar’s a jack-knife big rig on the Frizzer question, and a spilled bag of dicks causing a long back-up extending to the salt and pepper question, but clear sailing on most of today’s queries.
