Someone I work with has a small head, what is this syndrome/illness called?
I work with this guy, and for a little bit, I thought he was a she. He has a very small head in proportion to his body. His voice has a high pitch to it. His hands are larger than normal, and his body looks larger than it should… but not fat. Around his neck, it looks like shrunken skin, or scarred skin.
I don’t want to ask him about it, since it would be one of those things someone would be self conscious about, and I don’t want to offend him. It’s just been a curious thing that I think of each time I see him.
I think that about sums up how to describe him… Does anyone know what this is called?

I think Lightlyseared is correct.
hmm, that might be it… but not as extreme. Maybe it’s a mild case of it? And he isn’t showing any signs of mental retardation, which seems to be common among anyone who has been diagnosed with Microcephaly.
@Lightlyseared I do remember coming across that one while searching for names of this illness… though, wasn’t sure if that was it or not.
It would seem that this person only shares the symptom of having a small head, to the symptoms listed for Microcephaly.
If you asked him I am sure you would not be the first. Just do it in a courteous manner, which I am sure you would. Many people welcome the opportunity to share knowledge of their disorder.
I don’t make a diagnosis because that is the job of the physician. As a nurse patients have said to me, “I wish people would ask instead of staring.”
He may just have a small head.
hmm, how should I ask? The only time I really have the opportunity to ask is when we’re in our break room at work since we’re not in the same department.
Could be some small form of dwarfism?...
@AstroChuck

The first thing that I thought of when reading this question.
@jmah
Those guys just killed me. How could they ever take that off the air?
@SeventhSense shame isn’t it? I just saw the boys (“a bunch of nerds from Canada”) reunite on a Canadian talk. Still as funny as ever.
I would be afraid to ask him because what if it really isn’t a disease he could just have a really small head I wouldn’t want to offend him. Maybe ask your doctor next time you go for a visit or ask someone you know that is in the medical field?
First let me ask if he was in jail could he stick his head through bars?
