Their digestive systems benefit from it. They don’t get enough fiber often and can be constipated.
Because it’s yummy. NOM NOM NOM. You should try it.
What @SeventhSense said. In addition, they’ll eat it if they’re feeling unwell to induce vomiting.
Why do dogs eat anything? And I mean anything.
I can vouch for @MissAnthrope from extensive experience with the dog my family had when I was young. If you saw him outside making like a lawn mower it was a sure thing that he would come back in and eventually toss his cookies.
It’s my understanding that they eat grass to settle thier stomaches.
They eat it so they have something to yak up inside your house with and if they are particularly skilled they can blast out some liquid poo for the more expensive of your rugs.
Because they’re high-breds?
Because some pooches are “high” maintenance.
Dogs eat grass because they are feeling ill and they want to be sick, grass makes them sick.
It irritates the throat and stomach to induce vomiting. Cos dogs are smart like that. Like a human sticking fingers down their throat.
It isn’t completely known why dogs eat grass. clearly, it helps them throw up by giving a little tickle to the stomach as needed, but this doesn’t explain why a healthy dog eats grass. i read an interesting theory once that linked a dog’s eating grass to the diet of their ancestors who would go right for the gut when consuming prey (that’s where the good stuff is, of course) That gut would most often belong to a grass-fed animal and thusly grass became a part of the diet.
My dogs often eat grass in the summer, & don’t hurl after. They have certain patches of grass that they like, & return to daily. I call it their salad bar. :-) As to why? I guess they just like it!
To settle their stomach. They usually end up upchucking it afterward.
