Why do parents sign their young children up for Facebook?
It seems like everyone I knew in high school is popping out babies left and right. Only reason I know is because these toddlers now have their own Facebook pages.
Why would someone set up a Facebook account for a two year old? If any friends/relatives have questions about/for the kid, shouldn’t the parents field it on their account?

It’s more that folks can use it as a “filtered” way to provide update on the kid’s status. That is, the parents can post kid-specific updates without flooding their own pages with updates about the kid.
Doesn’t actually work that way, and I personally refuse to friend my friend’s kids.
Seems rather silly, doesn’t it? At that age, the site is about the parents, not the kids. Just another example of our culture of conspicuous consumption. Fashion trend, I suppose.
But when they get older, they will have complete access to their sons, or daughter’s facebook account.
@mowens If they use the same account and don’t just go create a new one…
No idea, they think it’s a cute idea, I guess. I don’t get when their infants have their own blogs either, especially written by their parents but in first person narrative.
I know someone who’s cat has its own Facebook. It’s not like the cat is actually doing the computing…it’s just cute/funny. :)

haha…that sounds saccharine…! Thank God Facebook was created long after I was a “little kid”...
So they will be prepared for the future? It is really stupid and unnecessary. It is just like having a Facebook page for someones dog.
My cat has his own facebook…it was 10 percent for comedy, 90 percent for FarmTown. Yeah, I said it.
Don’t you judge meeee!!!!!!
My 10 year old wanted a Facebook so she could play Farmville with her grandma and great grandma. I signed her up. I keep a watch on it though, so no pervs get to her. As far as babies with a Facebook, I don’t know anyone who does that, but, I guess it’s fun for the parents who think everyone cares about their kid and wants to look at pictures of them.
I used to work with a girl that had a MySpace for her cat…I was irritated when I got a friend request from “Mr Snookums”.
Oh my god – I know! I’ve seen some myself… I think its absolutely ridiculous! WTF are some people thinking???
