Have any of you worked as/encountered teen door-to-door magazine sales?

I have had several kids in the past few years knock at my door to sell me magazines or newspaper subscriptions. They always seemed a bit shady or desperate but I thought nothing of it.
Then I did some research and found it’s a big ol’ scam and exploits the kids.
Do any of you have a story that backs this up? Have any of you actually worked for these kinds of companies, or know someone who has?
It just intrigues and disgusts me.
