What is the best hopeless romantic fairytale book?

Asked by xTheDreamer (897points) January 25th, 2010

I’m working on this art project and one of the object of it contains a book. It should fall in the category of “hopeless romantic” such as the story Snow White, Cinderella etc. but I want a really really hopeless romantic book and that everyone knows about it.

Romeo and Juliet.
Now a days, no one would die just to be with someone else.

“The Little Mermaid” is one of my favorites:)

Do you want a violent and bloody fairy tale or a more modern clean story?

The Little Mermaid is not a great choice consider she is transformed into sea foam at the end.

@EmpressPixie . . . i’ve been transformed into sea foam dozens of times. it’s not that bad.

Rapunzel. The prince goes blind after he falls into the witch’s thorn bush at the bottom of the tower window, and the prince and poor Rapunzel have to live in the forest like paupers for years, lost! because neither can find their way out. She doesn’t know how to get out, having been cooped up all that time, and he can’t see to find the way!

At least that’s how I remember the Brothers Grimm version of it.

Do you meant hopeless in that they don’t end up together or “hopeless romantic” in that it is incredibly romantic?

Orpheus and Eurydice – the myth where Eurydice is taken down to the underworld and Orpheus – her lover – comes and plays the lyre so well he gets her out.
