What's left over in your fridge that somebody else would love to eat?

Asked by charliecompany34 (7813points) January 25th, 2010

not referring to immediate in-house family members. they already ate it the night before, but they just don’t dig leftovers.

are meals or items in your refrigerator “gold” to others who visit or drop by? what is left over in your fridge? how long has it been there? who would eat it? what is still good to eat?

I can’t think of anything in that box of doom that anyone would like…There is soup in a container at the back that has to be poisonous by now ;0

My wofe made an orange chiffon cake yesterday. I was supposed to bring the leftovers to work, but I forgot. Oh well, more cake for me when I get home.

Diet pepsi is the only thing drinkable/edible in my fridge. There’s a piece of chicken in there that is now growing a small tree and the expiration date on the eggs was sometime in December.

I have Spicy Thai peanut chicken (2 breasts), salad fixins, and brie cheese with crackers. Could whip up some broccoli as well . . .

There’s some potato-onion soup that is pretty tasty, and of course I made chocolate-malt sandwich cookies (they aren’t exactly “leftover”, but they are in the fridge, and completely heavenly delicious!)

Well, there’s a loaf of country white bread and a loaf of pumpkin spice bread, homemade. A container of rice pelaf Hubbs made. A huge tub of pumpkin bean chili that was made tonight. There was homemade caramel corn, but we just finished it off.

We had leftovers tonight. I mixed together rice with the ½ can of leftover Rotel from the football game yesterday and some chicken broth I had made earlier in the week with leftover gorund turkey sauteed with diced onion and red bell pepper and some cheddar cheese.

It was really good, but it cleaned out the fridge!

I roasted a turkey today, so there are at least three more meals to be fixed with those leftovers, including the soup I will make from the carcass that I put in the freezer.
Some great smoked cheese, and carrot and celery sticks leftover from a movie night last week.

Anybody out there like left-over sauerbraten? Made it for the first time today. marinated top round for 4 days, Cooked to perfection. I loved it, Son didn’t, Wife unit luke warm on it. Do I put it away with the sauce on it, or separate? 2 pounds left.

Nothing at the moment (must cook tomorrow!), but being just one person I do sometimes get tired of my foods before I finish them, even if it’s a dish I really enjoy. One recent example was a carrot and ginger soup. It was glorious the first two days… then it began to get really boring. It’s a total catch-22 because I don’t have time to cook every lunch and dinner so big batches are a must. I’m with you, @charliecompany34, I wish there was some way to exchange leftovers with other good cooks!

Most of the leftovers in my fridge right now would only be good for someone who wants to be sick tomorrow and not go to work or school. They’d have to sign a waiver releasing me from liability in case the illnesses progresses to something deadly, but then they’re more than free to sample some week-old maple glazed salmon or three-week-old dirty rice.

Actually, there might be a couple of broiled hot dogs that are still safe to eat, but who’d want to eat that?

The only tempting leftover food currently in my fridge is a tray of absolutely lovely lemon cupcakes. My husband’s aunt gave them to us after a party yesterday, and they are wonderful. I think they came from some fancy bakery. They’re plain white cupcakes, but the tops were cut off. They were spread with a lemon filling, like what you get in a lemon meringue pie. The cupcake tops were put back on over the lemon filling and dusted with powdered sugar. I am going to try making yellow cupcakes the same way, but with a chocolate filling!

So, yeah, I just added “clean out the fridge” to my to-do list for tomorrow.

@majorrich and can you freeze portions just for you? with the sauce on I think.

We have leftovers from last night from a trip to the Indian restaurant just down the street so I’m thinking someone out there might find those tidbits appetizing. Karahi Lamb Boti Masala, Basmati rice, and some garlic Naan is still very good the day after.

Vegetarian chili, cream of crab soup, garlic mashed potatoes, all from scratch.

How about a chunk of Italian style meatloaf made with ground turkey? It would make a great sandwich and I’d be happy to email it to the highest bidder.

Cherry pie about a week old, but still yummy when heated. :)

@lynfromnm. Sell it on Ebay or Craig’s List. Some people will buy anything!

Nothing in my fridge, but at my boyfriend’s place there are Chinese food leftovers to last a week or so!

@Bluefreedom – great idea! Thanks.

Home made turkey soup and Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Macadamia ice cream. I know I didn’t make it but it’s worth fighting over.

@fireinthepriory I’m single, also. Maybe we can mail each other leftovers? :-)

Oh, I forgot that we have some really good pork tenderloin left from dinner tonight, but since I’m using it to make pork fried rice tomorrow night, it’s off limits!

The second half of a great pot roast dinner that we had yesterday, made in quantity planned for two meals. We like to cook enough to have a free meal on the second round. Shortly there will be a batch of delicious homemade spaghetti sauce left over from tonight, again made in sufficient quantity for a second meal.

My husband made a delicious spicy Asian pork noodle dish last night that really helped clear the sinuses. I wasn’t feeling well enough to eat the leftovers today, but I do plan on eating some for lunch tomorrow. If anyone stops by, they can’t have it!
