How can I prove my doctors wrong?

Asked by Shield_of_Achilles (1906points) January 25th, 2010

I was told that because of an accident that happened in the boy scouts and my tendency to punch things when I get angry, that I have developed cracks in my hands. These cracks hurt like crazy every day of my life and make my hands shake pretty badly. According to my doctors, these cracks are “never going to fully heal” and “the pain may never go away”. Well I’m tired of being told what I can and can’t fix. Can someone offer me some help on how to get my hands back to 100%?

I’ve already found other methods of releasing my anger and I don’t use the heavy bag at the gym anymore. Please don’t offer those as suggestions.

Have you seen a hand specialist? (Not just a regular orthopedic surgeon. Some of them do an additional few years of training to concentrate on the hand.)

Yes, by all means, get a few more opinions, from hand specialists. And then go see a homeopath and holistic doctor too. You just never know who can fix what ails you.

I had a chronic problem that I was told would never be cured and was not caused by what I thought. I never could convince doctos of anything. Eventually, after years, I found a doctor who believed me and agreed with me (I was actually referred to him by a doctor who thought I was wrong, but he told me he knew a doctor who does research on the very thing I was postulating) that is when I finally received some effective treatment.

Don’t really have time to play tag with specialists and what not. =/

Your situation makes me think of a woman I know who apparently went way overboard on some carpentry project and severely damaged her hands by excessive hammering. She had to wear immobilizing splints on both hands for an entire year. She did recover, but for that year it was just an unbelievable nuisance. I have had to deal with having each hand splinted for two weeks following carpal tunnel surgery (not at the same time), and that was hassle enough. But if you want to get your hands back, you might have to do something like that.

And stop hitting things.

You can be pretty sure that if you’re paying a price now, you’re going to pay a lot more when you’re older and things get harder and hurt more. Better deal with it now if you can. See a hand doctor.

Chances are you have cracked them so badly and then re-cracked them so badly over and over again that they will not ever be 100%. Especially if your body has stopped growing. I know this is not what you wanted to hear….. Get another opinion….?!
I broke my wrist, hand, arm, and collar bone all in one shot once and it left my wrist and hand at about 95%. That is all that I will ever get from it. Sometimes things that are broken never heal the same.

@Jeruba That just won’t work at all… I have classes….

@judochop Yeah? That’s pretty much what I thought. I think I’m just going to take calcium pills or something and live with it unless it gets worse….

All else fails I can always find a place with stem cell stuff ^.^

…And she had a job…

@Jeruba I would imagine that would be difficult, and I’m by no means attempting to down size her ordeal. I’m just saying that I don’t think I can take that kind of hit right now seeing as how personal aid from the university takes long to get in those situations and I have a scholarship I cant afford to jeopardize. Maybe later in life when I can take a break and have less ridding on thin lines I can have it fixed like that. Please don’t feel like I’m casting your input aside, I was actually thinking about trying to find time tomorrow to go to the clinic here and having them looked at again. Life is just kinda hectic right now =/

@talljasperman Can you held me find a method of procuring some?
