Any suggestions as to why my HP printer has quit working?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) January 26th, 2010

My HP Office Jet K80xi printer will not print. all the connections are in order and functioning. i changed ink cartridges. i do not want to print in color. the black ink cartridge is brand new. my printer is telling me to install the color ink cartridge. will this printer not print, unless both cartridges are in place? is there any way i can program my printer to print with just the black ink cartridge? i do not have the manual for the printer, since it was purchased from a second hand store. it works great, when it works. help!

Unfortuneately, you need a new color ink cartridge as, yes, the printer will not print without both ink cartridges installed.

Even if you tell it to just print in black.

Lame? Yes.

John, yes, both cartridges have to be in even when you’re printing in black & white. I have an HP, too, & that’s the way they are.

These days it’s cheaper to buy a new printer than buy ink. This is just an observation and not really helpful.
