Do you ever wish you still had the toys from your childhood?

Asked by Blondy (150points) January 26th, 2010

….for the memories or even because you could sell them for big bucks?

Every once in a while I wish I could play with my old Lite Brite. Or a slinky. I suppose if I really wanted them, I could still find those in stores, no? So I guess I must not want them that badly.

I have a Barbie in the original swimsuit and box, with a price sticker for $3.49 from the Bay.

I wish I still had my big wheel…or better yet an adult size version of my old big wheel

WOW. I still have my barbies, but they are not new, of course.I got my kids lite brites for Christmas and slinkies too. The loved the lite brite. Slinkies get bent too easily. But don’t they make them in plastic now?

I wish I still had my 1978 version Spirograph. I’ve seen it for the high two-digits on eBay. I just might get the latest one at Target. Hmm…

I wish I still had the sandbox that I had in my backyard as a kid. That thing was great.

Does anyone remember a toy that came out around the time of the Apollo missions.

It consisted of two parts. A hand held battery operated “fan” and a balloon with landing gear. You moved it around with the “fan” in order to make the lander land where you wanted it to.

Sort of like the lunar lander.

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities I don’t wish for my childhood sandbox….I buried my surviving colored Easter Eggs there to keep people from cracking them (killing them) and hid them in the box. A few weeks later I returned to the sandbox and dug them up. There were maggotts everywhere!!! Eew! I cried and never went back in there!

My Easy Bake Oven, Fuzzer Pumper Barber Shop and my Empire Strikes Back stickers (some still in the original packaging with a (now) stale strip of pink gum) are in storage at my Pop’s.

I wish that I still had my Green Machine.

I still have a lot of books from my childhood. My grandgirl thinks it’s very funny that there are crayon marks in them that she didn’t put there.

borderline_blonde's avatar

@susanc That’s so cute (your granddaughter, I mean ;). I have kept a lot of my books from childhood… maybe because books have always been such a big part of my life, I like to look and see the ones that my reading passion began with. I hope to share those with my kids someday.

I still do have some of my toys – primarily the teddy bear that I was given at birth, and a couple Barbie dolls. But mostly, I just kept the books.

My mother still has my original set of Tinker Toys in the original box. she is a pack rat and never lets anything go. set of the 50s. and, she may still my erector set from that era. she is 92 and does not remember a lot.

Yes, I would sell them all and become very wealthy. I wouldn’t sell my Rock’ Em Sock’Em Robots though, they were my favorite.

DominicX's avatar

Yeah, there were a few that were pretty cool that I had. Pretty much all gone now. Not the super special things like my stuffed animals or my baby doll, but most of the other things have been gotten rid of. I loved K’nex, Legos, Hot Wheels, Lite Brite, EasyBake Oven, etc. Though I do still have board games that I got a long time ago. And I still play them. :)

I still do :D Legos and a Sega Nomad made up the bulk of my toys. Now the Legos are in the attic and the Sega is in my dresser drawer.
I wish that I’d had the kinds of toys that were available to my dad’s generation when I was growing up.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I still have two soft toys that I had as a kid. They were favourites of mine and I wouldn’t dream of getting rid of them.

shego's avatar

I just have a Teddy bear left from when I was little. But I wish I still had the my kid sister doll, and I wish I still had my Polly pocket.

HungryGuy's avatar

I still have my HO electric trains and all the track and everything, all safely packed up and waiting for me to build my model railroad empire :-)

And I also have one of those giant rubber tupperware storage bins FULL of Legos…

sweetteaindahouse's avatar

That is the reason I never throw anything away, anything!

rangerr's avatar

Oh man. I was thinking about this today.
I had some KICKASS Star Wars toys when I was little. I have NO idea where they are, now. I want my Fett action figures. :(

I still have a lot of my stuffed animals and this farm set. Other than that, nope.

YARNLADY's avatar

I would love to have the toy dog I got for Christmas in 1955 for sentimental reasons, and the all metal Lionel train set we had to give to my grandsons.

I used to collect these naked little trolls. They sold for a dollar. I would get different colored hair. I think I still have them in a box somewhere. I dressed them in torn rag strips.
Did anyone else collect trolls?
