Apple more popular than State of the Union?

Today, I’ve read 5+ articles on what is so great/so terrible about the newly released Apple iPad, multiple liveblogs of the event, and a few video roundups of the device.
I’ve read about 3 news articles maybe about Obama’s State of the Union speech (going on now, by the way), no liveblogs, no video roundups.
Is that right? Should some consumer product really be stepping ahead of arguably the most important speech of Obama’s presidency so far?

We are talking about it in the chatroom here. We have been for the last two hours.
edit :: Not talking iPad. But SOTU.
Well according to apple, they’ve just shit world peace.
According to trending topics on Twitter, Obama > Apple right now.
Tumblr puts Apple and the iPad far above Obama and the State of the Union, but good point @rangerr.
I could never get the iPad. Completely useless to me. I have an iPhone and a MacBook, why would I need more?
If I got that, it would be entirely for show, and I just can’t do that. :P
Besides, the name sounds like a person from Chicago saying “iPod”.
@DominicX The eye candy factor of the thing is incredible. Being a gadget geek, I could play with it for hours and just drool over the interface. I don’t really get it either. Without flash or the ability to multitask, it just doesn’t really work for me. At the moment it’s just a big iPod touch, nothing too special. People will eat it up, though.
Some people only follow political talk if there’s something big at stake. I know that I’d rather read Apple product specs than listen to the Resident jabber.
Also there are more people than Americans on the net, and the net is world-wide
Here’s a nice little article and graph on it. Looks like Apple did have more of an impact.
