How to do immersive video?

Asked by grumpyfish (6657points) January 28th, 2010

I’m looking for a relatively straightforward* way to create an immersive video. In short, looking to take a panoramic video shot with a fisheye lens and let the watcher look around inside the video.

I’m pretty sure this is possible with papervision3d, but I don’t have any experience in actionscript.

*Specifically, good and cheap.

Like Quicktime VR. Or do you want it to do the same with actual video or just a single snapshot?

@johnpowell Just like QTVR, except that it’s full motion video rather than a static image.

I wish QTVR had support for each face of the cube having video, which would solve my problem, but it is limited to a single image.

I just saw a demo of this using HTML 5.. Looking for the link. I saw it on reddit.com if you want to search too. Their search is shit.

Thanks! This is a good example:

They are good & fast, but not at all cheap =)

Still looking around =)

That is cool and is doable with HTML5. I’m just not really sure how. I can’t find the link that explained how to do it.

It also seems possible within Quicktime! This guy is doing it, anyway: http://www.vrhotwires.com/InexpensivePanoramicVideo6.html

(The video there is a quicktime embedded video)

Hm, off to read about HTML5 =)

A really nice 300 euro solution: http://lucid.it/ (based on papervision!)

And it looks like this guy might have a nice solution: http://www.cornflex.org/?p=1

And, an even better (seems to be free) solution: http://www.ryubin.com/panolab/panoflash/index.shtml
