New York City people (or those who've traveled there), what's the temperature like in April?

Asked by Jude (32204points) January 28th, 2010

My girlfriend and I thinking about taking a trip there (long weekend). I’d love to go in April (mid to late), but, I’m worried that it’ll be too cold (or cool-ish).

It can range from mid 40s/50’s to 65–70 Farenheit. It’s usually mild enough for a light jacket but bring something heavier just in case. I’ve remembered snow storms in early April but very rare.
End of April you will be definitely into some lovely Spring weather. Central Park will be in bloom.

Very changeable. Could be beautiful, 60’s and sunny. Could be cold and rainy. Be prepared for anything.

As @SeventhSense says, the end of the month is more likely to be temperate. Earlier in the month, could be nice, could be cool and rainy. The flowering trees will start their cycle of blooming (or blomberging) usually around the second week in April. Spring is generally a great time to come to New York; although there’s hardly ever a bad time!

I would say the best time to come would be the first week of May- perfect.

But if April is when you can come, come then. Just bring layers to wear. Hell, you’re from Canada – you’re gonna be too cold in New York?

You can see @janbb at the zoo. :)

Yeah, come and hang out with me in my pond!

Exquisitely beautiful, with clean breezy air and people breathing deeply and smiling.

What do you consider cool?,,,cold? There has been times in the past that a blizzard has blown through NYC in April and May. . . But for the most part, it’s been fairly mild.

My first year here (many ago) it snowed the week after Easter.

Ah, guess what? We’re going mid-May instead. It all has to do with getting time off of work. I’m sure that mid-May will be lovely. Thanks, jellies.

Mid-May will be exactly like what I wrote above, except it will also be warm. Mmmm.

at night it could be pretty chilly (like 30’s or 40’s) so i would wear layers – long sleeved lightweight shirts, a “3 season” jacket, a lightweight scarf, maybe gloves just in case (you could always leave them in your bag if it’s too warm for them but if it’s cold you’ll be glad you have them).

According to my husband, who was born and raised in New York City, you should go prepared for anything – from extreme cold, snow to a nice cold spring, sunny days. If you can make the choice, watch the weather reports for the preceding couple of weeks, and decide based on that.

You can choose to visit no matter what, and you will not be disappointed. Just watch the weather reports up to the time of departure, and dress accordingly. Do not let the weather stop you, your visit will be pleasant, as long as you are prepared.

@SeventhSense But you got it – so what does that say about you?
