Defrauded in an internet transaction... help/advice online?

Asked by Ria777 (2687points) January 29th, 2010

can anyone suggest a dedicated forum or messageboard (not here) to deal with a particular problem? I don’t want advice from Fluther until I determine that I can’t find a dedicated messageboard which specializes in this type of question…

the problem, in brief: I made an online transaction (not via eBay) via debit card with a person out of state. she conned me and never sent the goods. I went to the bank but I waited too long and they won’t go through the process to try to track her via the electronic “paper trail” of the transaction. because I cannot get ahold of her, I can hardly take her to small claims court.

please don’t suggest contacting so-and-so. I want a messageboard or forum for other people in similar situations before I go into more detail not Fluther.

again, I would like to find a dedicated messageboard or forum for getting assistance and advice. lastly, if that helps, I use Sovereign Bank. on Monday I will contact the debit card company and the Attorney General’s office, etc.. again, I would like places where I can get specialized advice. thanks.

Did this transaction occur through PayPal? if so, their security section can help you. have used them before with good results. sorry about your request on a no-contact. these people will try to assist you.

I may not be understanding something when I say this, but… Have you at all considered the police?

www.consumerist.com but they deal with getting refunds and getting situations corrected with businesses, not individuals. But it is a good place to submit your question.

Try the Better Business Bureau for your region.
Perhaps the State Attorney General would be able to help..

@john65pennington: I explained in the original post that I used an ATM card, as opposed to PayPal.

about this thread I do not want general advice. I did not post asking for general advice. simply put, I want to find messageboards and forums for people in my situation (and similar situations) or similar situations.

so: please do forward me URL’s of forums for people dealing with banks or frauds.

please do not suggest that I contact such-and-such like the Attorney General. I already have plans along those lines. (I won’t go into a long discussion of what I plan to do.)

@srmorgan:I don’t want to go into a complicated explanation of how this could help, but I think that they could prove useful to me. thank you.

So, quit bitching at us and go to the Better Business Bureau site and post on one of their forums! You’ve spent enough time and effort on this question to have searched and found what you want already. Sheesh.
Why would you want to complain in a public, and generally anonymous, site prior to taking real action?

because I didn’t want anyone wasting my time or their posting information that I hadn’t requested.

as for the BBB site, yes I’ll do that, once I go to the bank tomorrow (yes, they have Saturday hours) to ask one more question.
