Why have i heard that the marijuana plant can reverse the greenhouse effect?

Asked by KasperPrip (218points) January 31st, 2010

Is it just pro-marijuana propaganda, or is it true?
Is hemp more efficient in converting carbon dioxide than other plants? and if it is, why?

No people are just retarded. Plant a tree it will do better, besides most people will smoke the pot anyway which would increase the greenhouse effect.

That is hilarious, but untrue. Some plants are more efficient at absorbing and utilizing Carbon Dioxide, because the have a different photosynthetic pathway (C3 vs. C4 pathway). Marijuana is a C3 plant, so it is not the most efficient plant at absorbing CO2.

This is one of the more hilarious attempts at marijuana propaganda I’ve heard in a while. Thanks for the giggle.

Efficent or not, you are still planting a tree so you are still doing something good for the environment. I say go for it!!

MJ is a plant and not a tree. There could be a difference of several hundred vertical feet.

Yes, it could. We’d need to build a widespread irrigation system in the Sahara and turn the entire desert into a huge plantation of Cannabis sativa plants.

However, other plants would be more effective. Even more effective is burning less fossil fuels.
