Is the Geico Gecko Australian or British?

Asked by troubleinharlem (7999points) January 31st, 2010

Some people say that he’s British… some people say that he’s Welsh… my friend from New Zealand says he sounds like he’s from there. What is it?

He’s a Gecko, so he can not have a race. He hates being labeled. All he wants to do is save you 15% or more on car insurance. Poor guy

@FlutherMe ; Race sounds so negative. I was talking about his accent.
if you want to be that way, he’s not a guy, he’s a gecko.

I would have guessed Australian or from New Zealand, but what do it know? I’m an American and can’t differentiate those accents very well.

@wilma – I’ve lived in aus 2 years and yeah aussies and (kiwis) new zealand have basically the same accent, except for a few words.. lol

He’s absolutely British. He sounds just like Michael Caine.

p.s. @troubleinharlem: “race” sounds “negative”? Is belonging to a race automatically… like, a slam? why?

The newest gecko is an east-end cockney mix—however, former incantations of the gecko have been voiced by Kelsey Grammar and the British actor Dave Kelly. Currently it’s voiced by Jake Wood.
