No. They are people who use current knowledge about developments to extrapolate a prediction about the future.
Are economists who predict the development of markets “Prophets”?
What about meteorologists who predict the weather?
Or virologists who predict the progression of a viral pandemia?

2. Someone who predicts the future; a soothsayer.

Like @Fyrius said, “Nope.”

No, a prophecy is a message inspired by an outside force, such as a divinity.
A futurist uses information available to anyone who cares to follow the same research, and uses scientific extrapolation to make reasoned conclusions.

Can’t say that I disagree with any of you.
But this does raise some implications, does it not?
i.e. Whose pronouncements should carry more weight? (For instance)

Predictions should not be judged on their source.

Because the source of a statement tells you nothing about its reliability. It would be more helpful instead to examine what the source has to say to back up the prediction.

Arguments and proof, not authority.
