Yes, you will be able to use the points to buy games and add-ons. If you buy a Live game such as UNO, however, you will not be able to play online multiplayer unless you get a Gold subscription.
@buckyboy28 i mean like if i reedem the points, and i have silver, can i still use it after 1 month? is there like a limit to use it? what I mean by limit is like is there like a certain time or date i need to use it by?
If you’ve got promotional, contest, or giveaway points from Microsoft for doing something or other, those expire.
Points you gain from redeeming a card do not expire. Unless you cancel your account. Then your points expire after 90 days.
@buckyboy28 I really hate the Xbox, and the Gold subscription is a major reason why. You pay for the internet connection, the console, and the games (10 dollars more). Then you have to pay a monthly/yearly fee to play online with friends! I’ll stick to my PC gaming through Steam.
@MebiByte What if i win a contest over the internet? Do those expire?
@xboxfan The real question is if you should trust a contest over the internet. How did they give you the points?
@xboxfan If the contest is through Microsoft, they will expire. If you win a giveaway on a blog or something, you will probably be given the code off the back of a card. Those points will not expire.
A show of appreciation for these answers would be nice. A “Great Answer” would be even better.
@xboxfan Read my answer again. I answered that question.
