Who hates twitter? why?

Asked by bigboss (990points) February 2nd, 2010

we didnt need this in the old days. why must people feel the need to announce to everyone what their doing every second of the day?

I don’t hate it, but I’m just not interested in it at all. Facebook is satisfactory for me. I don’t need more than that.

we didnt need fluther in the “old days” either, but everyone here (mostly) seems to like it.

the concept of “what youre doing every single second” has been phased out, even by twitter itself. it’s more a way of communicating with people who have common interests, and keeping up with things youre interested in.

Val123's avatar

I don’t understand it.

Likeradar's avatar

I think it can be funny, and a fairly useful and easy way to keep up with your friends. For the most part I just didn’t see the point.

The problem comes when people’s tweets read:

Heading out to brunch!

OMG! Just got seated!

Should I order the omelette or the poached eggs?

I went with the omelette and wheat bread, lol.

Hate is a strong word for a website that you don’t even have to sign up for in the first place…...if you hate twitter, then why not hate all of the networking sites? It’s just a website and there are worse out there.

We live in an age of constant connection. Here’s my idea for the next addition to CC after Google Latitude: Google Experience. You wear these glasses that have cameras on them and film what you see and also record what you hear and what you say. Then someone else sits on their ass at their computer and experiences your life as it happens.

You could also set it to “mutual” so that you would wear the glasses and headphones, but you would experience someone else’s life while they experienced yours. I imagine there might a lot of crashing into things, though. :P

The glasses don’t require batteries; they’re powered by your own sense of self-importance.

Is anyone gonna buy my idea? I would think it would be a hit in this day and age…the CC market is huge!

@epony fluther is different. its just asking peopl questions. you can ask anyone quesions in person but unlike twitter, your not going to go to everyone and say “i just pooped” “i just drank sum water” “im thinking of clouds” “just killed a fly”

the need to stay “connected is strong these days.

@Blackberry did i say i hate twitter? read closer next time.

Likeradar's avatar

@DominicX Ha! It probably would be… but really fucking pathetic. :(

Val123's avatar

I have an account there, but I have no idea how to get connected to people….

Blackberry's avatar

@bigboss Oh, no you did not. I should’ve phrased my answer: “If you have such a strong dislike of something so trivial that has nothing to do with you….” : )

buckyboy28's avatar

@Val123 I agree completely. It is not intuitive at all. I have an account but the only people that seem to find me are prostitutes. I have a whole account loaded with hookers.

Val123's avatar

@buckyboy28 Laughed out loud at that one! You poor thing!
I mean, I have a couple of people friended there, from wisdm but…I can’t even seem to figure out how to talk to THEM.

I don’t hate it. I use it for sales from my local store and to see what people are saying about current events. There’s also a lot of really good uses for Twitter. Like the movie review twitter site.

I don’t really hate it…I think of it like meatloaf.I just don’t do it ;)

Michael_Huntington's avatar

I’d do anything for love, but I won’t do that?

Lightlyseared's avatar

To reduce your life to 140 characters seems to take all the all the fun out of it.

@lucillelucillelucille you’re full of one liners, huh? ;-)

We didn’t need the Internet 15 years ago either but, here we are.

I don’t hate Twitter, but I do think it’s uninteresting, but what can you do, the internet is a modern niche, and people are gonna exploit it as best they can. I mean it’s not like Facebook is really about keeping in touch with people rather than it is about dramaz lulz.

i dont hate it but i dont really care what most people are doing all day. and most twitter “tweets” (?) are useless stuff that is uninteresting anyhow. it just seems like a waste of time. then again, such is 99% of the internet. lol

LeotCol's avatar

I don’t hate twitter. But I do feel sorry for people that tweet 24/7. To me that seems as though they have nothing better to do, therefore I do not want to read about what they are not doing.

Supacase's avatar

I just have no interest in it. I don’t know anyone I want to “follow” and I can’t think of anyone I would want to “follow” me.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I like it. Eddie Izzard or John Cleese is bound to tweet something that will make me laugh. And sometimes, I do too!

GingerMinx's avatar

I don’t hate it, but I have no time for any social networking sites like twitter, facebook or myspace. I imagine the people who use it enjoy it I just wish it wasn’t shoved in our faces on the sites I do enjoy using, such as many of the forums I belong to.

stardust's avatar

I don’t hate it. I don’t know much about it. However, I’m a firm believer that social networking fuels narcissism. Maybe it’s just the loons I’m friends with on facebook

Berserker's avatar

@GingerMinx Agreed. i’m sick and tired of being prompted to connect with Twitter and Assbook every single time I click on something.

I have no interest in it. I have a twitter but I very rarely log in there. I find it hard to follow replies from people and there’s no point in a service where I can’t find people’s comments. It seems to encourage just talking into a void with no real interaction.

Now Plurk on the other hand, I like. Its a similar thing, micro-blogging in 140 characters or less, but it has threaded comments, and responses are much easier to make & find. Much more interactive than Twitter.
