SPOILER Why didn't the vampire Victoria do this when she had the prime opportunity?

In the movie New Moon (don’t judge me I was just poking around), Bella jumps off a cliff and the wave overcomes her, when she is in the water she sees Victoria swimming towards her but is then knocked out and Victoria just ignores her and swims the other way. After she is saved by her oh-so-terrible-acting-knight-in-tanning-armor Jacob Black, you see Victoria watching from afar in the water. Why not just kill Bella when she was so vulnerable?

She’d throw away a perfect money making opportunity in the next book/movie.
Movies aren’t supposed to make sense.
You might want to add a **SPOILER** warning for those who have not seen this movie yet.
The physiological impact would be to much for the population. Can you imagination how many fans would sink into clinical depression at the the sight of their favorite heroine’s death? Oh, the horror! Some might even keel over from a heart attack.
Our health care is fragile enough already. The system couldn’t handle the deluge of “broken hearted” millions.
Yeah I know but she didn’t even attempt, she just looked at her and stayed close enough only to see Bella. It would be different if she tried and then jacob came in rescued her again.
Again, the hearts of the fans are faint…such a risk is to great… * shakes head*
Because this isn’t a story with a consistent, solid plot.
I would think she fled because she knew the werewolves were coming.
The answer is always: French Onion Soup. —neither exciting nor bland. no one hates it but no one loves it and it doesn’t answer any (culinary) questions. It just is what it is.
It happens slightly differently in the book, and I guess they just didn’t explain it well enough in the movie.
