Where would I file a complaint about late W-2s?

Asked by RocketSquid (3486points) February 4th, 2010

I haven’t received W-2’s yet from a company I used to work for. Talking with a few former coworkers from that same company, it sounds like no one has received them yet. Response from the higher ups was a surprisingly snotty “You’re going to have to wait”.

I’ve decided to complain (along with dozens of others) if the W-2 is postmarked after January 31st. Thing is, I don’t know where to file it. Where would I go for something like that?

They aren’t late. The government gave business’ an extra 15 days I think. Not sure about the time.

Some are still straggling in for us, we just got one yesterday. We aren’t sure if my husband was due for another, so we just filed without it and will do corrections if needed.

I’ve think that they have at least a seven day grace period from Jan 31st, considering it has to go through the mail.

W-2s, 1098s, 1099s, and quarterly earnings reports are all due January 31, a Sunday this year. So they probably went in late Saturday. If you do not receive yours with in a week or so contact your previous employer. If that fails contact the IRS.

As pointed out to me in an earlier thread, the date for issuing W-2’s this year was February 1, 2009.
It is not unusual for a W-2 to take a few days to get through the US Mails. We are located in North Carolina and our payroll service mails them from Birmingham AL for some reason. Our employees are located around the country and some might not received them before Monday next.

One other thing, many W-2’s are mailed with the last payroll of January and if your pay date was last Friday, that could account for a delay.

Hang in there.
