When I was a kid, my grandma set my place at the table with knife, fork, and spoon plus this little flat sided utensil that you used to push beans and peas onto your fork. What was that called?

Perhaps a misused crumber or master butter knife? I’ve never heard of such a thing otherwise.
@Snarp It wasn’t a crumber, but thanks for the effort. The handle was at right angles to the flat part-the geometry of it was like a rake or a hoe, but the working surface was as wide as the handle was long. It was T shaped, the stem of the T is the handle and the cross of the T is a flat “blade” but not sharp.
@josie did everyone at the table get the same setting or was it just you as a child? Maybe it was something special Nana prepared for you.
Only the kids (my sister and I) got this thing. It was clearly some sort of table etiquette helper for children
If you had been born at the right time she may have gotten you these.
In any case, I’m guessing what you’re thinking of would be called a “pusher.”
@mrentropy My first thought on seeing those was “I am so getting a set of those for my son.” Then I realized he would never actually eat anything because he would be so busy pushing the food around the plate.
@mrentropy Cute. Maybe it was called a pusher. I don’t really remember. Makes sense though. Thanks for the effort.
@Snarp I wish I had kids to be able to get them. I suppose I could use them.
@josie You’re welcome. I’m a bit surprised because I didn’t think I’d find anything at all.
Well, you learn something new every day.
But what is the point? A knife does exactly the same thing…?
My gosh, your grandmother was getting you into pushing at that age?!
@The_Idler You don’t want your young kid to have a knife. And, anyway, if you give ‘em a stick they can practice using it as a pool bridge and send the peas right out of the kitchen.
We just had not-very-sharp knives. This seems like a pretty middle-class thing.
Plus OP said he had a knife as well, so maybe his gammy just thought it was cute.
