have you ever experienced this?

Asked by tauri (14points) March 2nd, 2008

i was standing in the kitchen i just got my food out of the oven my sister was in the next room with her boyfriend and they were watching tv and this weird thing has happened to me before but its never been this bad or this intense but heres how it was this time.
first i started to hear like a beat in my head repeating itself then comes another beat a differnt one to go along with it its all filling up my ears and its like slowly getting louder and faster and then i can start to hear people talking like conversations or something alot of them at one time and its so loud and gumbled that i cant catch enough of one thing to know what they are saying so if real voices around me are talking i dont know whats going on and then i start to feel wobbly and so im like holding onto the counter and im trying to talk because sometimes that helps snap me out of it but like its hard to talk when i cant hear myself think or say stuff and my sister said that i said “say some” and i meant to say “say something so i can snap out of this” and i felt like i said it all but i knew that she really couldnt hear me say it all and so its like all these noises and voices and i cant hear whats actually going on around me and i feel wobbly and then slowly everything starts to become slow and silent or like you know on scary movies when like “time stops” and it doesnt really have any sound but it still sorta has this like low deep oooooooooo sound well then its like that and im moving but very slow and everythings really slow and its like i was panicing inside of me thinking like HELLO SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME HELLO CAN YOU SEE ME CAN YOU HEAR ME and then like i stumbled over to a chair and i somehow sat down and im shaking and i start to cry really hard and then i start to hear my sister and her boyfriends voices again and its like VOOM outta nowhere im back to normal. it was crazy i was really shaken up and i didnt know that i said anything or that i almost knocked my sisters computer of the chair. has anything like that ever happend to you? this happens to me regularly but never where i panic and fell like im stuck in like a time bubble thats refused to move or something..usually i just hear weird noises and then people talking and i cant hear the people around me until they repeat what they have said atleast twice or so. im sorry this is so long but i had to explain everything. i think my sister thinks im crazy now that she knows what happens, ive told her before and ive told my mom before but they were like huh weird whatever. does this happen to anybody else?

panic attack? Get an appointment with a neurologist to make sure it is not your brain that’s giving you the spells and keep us updated

could be something you need a doc for. maybe I say that bc I freak out about all the weird things that happen to me, but sounds scarey, I’d get checked out.

I’m an Audiologist (hearing and balance specialist)

What you describe does not sound like an inner ear problem… I would first go to your primary doctor to check your blood pressure and to have a comprehensive blood test. The symptoms you describe could be blood pressure or glucose fluctuations, they could be from imbalanced nutrition or hormonal fluctuations, or they could be petit-mal siezures or panic attacks… there are too many potential causes.

When you do go to the doctor it is very important for you to be completely honest. Prior to your visit, try to review all the episodes you have to look for a pattern… such as whether they happen at a particular time of day, before or after a meal, after a period of physical exertion or emotional stress. Also, be as detailed as you can about the symptoms and the progression of each episode. Find out your family medical history for cardiac, neurologic or endocrinological disorders. The more detailed your case history is, the easier it is to narrow-down the list of possible contributing factors.

Good luck!
