Well.. what do you want to teach?

Philosophy and Religious Studies…I guess…its always been a fascinating topic to me.

Well you have to take all your general ed classes like math, science, english etc. Then you’ll have to take some classes that are more specific to your major.. you should see a school councilor to make up an educational plan.

Self defense. Kids these are capable of anything.

You may need to supplement your BA with an MA in Religious Studies.
Good luck with your academic career.

Edit: “Kids these days are capable of anything.” Man, I loathe that time limit on editing!

Since with that subject matter odds are you would be teaching higher level students, your current age and above to university level, you would definitely need a Master’s degree and possibly a Doctorate. In any case, your university should be able to give you the list of classes you need to take in order to get each of the degrees.

Generally, as others have said, you will need to fulfill your requirements in General Studies, including math, language, literature and bits of science, history and art. Then you would need to take the courses for your major. Most university counselors can provide you with a list of the required courses and the recommended courses.

In addition, you might look around to see if your schedule and course plan will allow you to take a few classes in the philosophy of teaching, or teaching methods.

Are you planning to stay in Hong Kong for university or try a different country?

belakyre's avatar

@Darwin Since there aren’t any universities in Hong Kong that focus a lot on Religious Studies…I guess I would have to try a different country.

Ah…but the day I choose which university to go to is still far away…and I have a lot of stuff to concentrate on right now.

Thanks a lot everyone for your answers! I really appreciate your care!

What are you talking about?

- CUHK has a Culture and Religious Studies department
– HKBU has a Department of Religion and Philosophy
– HKIEd has a Center for Religious and Spirituality with a Master of Education program (LIfe and Spirituality Education).

I think the basic requirement for being a teacher is a great joy in seeing kids grow, lots of patience, and the ability to be clear and firm.
