What are the limits of .epub?

I am looking to see what all is possible in .epub files.

Can it use lots of color images, can it contain extensive tables (financial data). Does it have the same markup possibilities as HTML?

@grumpyfish Yeah I saw that one, also have read through the OPS and OPF specs.
But thought that perhaps someone has been working with .epub for a while, and could enlighten me more.
