My sister and her ex-husband looked into doing the same. He said it was going to be about 30K. That was in 2005 so I’m not sure how prices on materials have fluctuated since then. And he is an electrician so labor is kinda free for him. He has friends that will work on the weekend for beer and BBQ.
We insulated and dry-walled a 10X10 room and it was about 500 bucks just for that. The stuff is crazy expensive.
You can buy a garage kit for around $5,000 which includes the precut wood and fittings, but you need to have the pad poured separately. Or this one or contact your local Home Depot, Lowes, or HD Supply, Repair and Remodel. You can hire a contractor who will assemble it for you, or do it yourself.
Be sure to check your local building codes before you begin the work.
If there’s one thing my carpentry instructor taught me it was how to paper up a Materials Sheet to determine what you’ll need and how much it would cost. If you know anything about framing you should be able to do this, if not, well it’s a lot of math.
I have actually seen them at costco.com. You still need to build a foundation and run electrical, but it is a start!
Around 10,000 bucks its really spendy
