How can I make a .MOV file small enough to upload?

Asked by Elumas (3170points) February 12th, 2010

I recorded a 16 minute video on a high quality camera. It’s on my hard drive as a .MOV file and is 3.36 GB. Is there a way I can make the size of the video smaller so that I can upload it to a site limiting videos to 1024 MB? Btw I’m using a Mac.

Check out handbrake. It should be able to do what you want.

Cool, yeah for handbrake! I was gonna say Compressor would do it quickly but that’s not free or the free MPEG streamclip most likely: http://www.squared5.com/ – some other options for people to check out.

You can open it in QuickTIme Player and either do a File>Save for Web or choose an option under the Share menu.
