Sore in my mouth won't go away!

Asked by littleash06 (2points) February 15th, 2010

I have had this cut in my mouth over a year now, its on the tip of my tounge and it turns white colored sometimes! I went to the DR and got antibiotics and it seemed to be helping and then had to go back and get more and i thought it was going away so i never went back. Now its back worse than it was before and i no longer have insurance to go to the doctor! Also my family doctor didnt know what it was and refered me to an ear nose and throat doctor! Does anyone know what it is or what i can do to get it to stop hurting?

Rinse with antiseptic mouthwash or salt water,it’ll sterolize the sore and help kill bacteria. The mouthwash that is.The salt water will sterolize the sore.

A sore that doesn’t heal, especially in the mouth really needs to be seen.
Do you, or have you ever smoked or chewed tabacco?

I have tried! It doesnt seem to help! It just burns really bad! I have tried all kinds of stuff salt, salt water, mouthwash, peroxide I dont even know what else.. haha and i do smoke unfortunalty!

Aside from salt water, have you tried taking lysine? It is an amino acid that inhibits sores from forming (and I find it helps to cure mine when I have a stubborn one that won’t go away), taken in pill form, over-the-counter. However, if you’ve had this ailment for a year, and have already seen a doctor, I am doubtful such common remedies will help…

You may have never heard of this before, but the human mouth is loaded with bacteria. a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans. smoking is not helping your situation. you really need to be back on antibiotics. try this: Binanca spray. its actually for bad breath, but the alcohol in it will keep your mouth bacteria to a lower level and it will give mother nature a chance to heal your mouth sore. Binanca is a spray and can be carried with you. it will burn, so expect this. spray your mouth several times a day. hope this helps.

You might also want to try Biotine toothpaste and mouthwash. It’s for dry mouth but it may change the environment in your mouth enough to allow healing.

I think you need a biopsy. The longer you wait, the harder the cure.

Thanks i will try this stuff!! yes and the DR did tell me if it didnt go away they were gonna do a biopsy but i no longer have insurance!!

That’s no reason to avoid treating something that may be life threatening. Would you rather be temporarily broke, or painfully dead?

littleash06's avatar

could it really be life threating?

I would go back, ASAP! If you don’t have insurance try checking if there are free clinics in your area. It also wouldn’t hurt to check with a dentist. They may have seen this before. Your health is important! If you don’t have your health you don’t have anything!

littleash06's avatar

yeah i called a clinc i can go in thurday! i really dont want to wait that long! but im just worried they wont be able to do anything if my family doctor didnt even know what it was!! I will try calling the dentist thats a good idea

Not to panic you, but one of the symptoms of cancer is a sore that doesn’t heal. It probably isn’t since you said it was shrinking on antibiotics, but I would try to gather up some cash and at least have a dentist look at it. Make sure you bring the info of what antibiotic you used with you.
Anybody else ready for universal health care?

littleash06's avatar

yeah thats what a friend had told me too! I dont even remember the antibiotics this was like 5 months ago, but im sure i could just call the doctor!

go the hell to a dentist and get a biopsy it’s important! if you don’t have insurance call the dental school in your area and explain- or go to a clinic that takes emergencies, go it’s important

ps I am a dentist and I have seen this you need to go go go to a dental clinic

Just a note re: the sore shrinking when taking past antibiotics:

Make sure that if you end up taking antibiotics again, that you take them as prescribed. If you do not, you could be doing more harm than good (i.e. strengthening the infection’s resistance).

Try putting salt on it, that might help. I pust some on mine and…well actually, it hurts even worse but the last time I tried it, it worked.
