Richard III! I wrote a paper on it! I got an A
By the definition @ChaosCross provided we can look to Global Warming, Iraq War, Cap and Trade, Green House Effect as a few examples of Catharsis with Al Gore as the king of Catharsis.
@ChaosCross
@Cruiser
Catharsis as “A release of emotional tension after an overwhelming vicarious experience, resulting in the purging or purification of the emotions” (Wikipedia).
Its too dangerous to expose ourselves to all the situations that cause the highs and lows of the human experience, yet we feel the need to feel the vicarious thrill. It maybe to build upon the tension we are feeling in our humdrum existance, only to then wash it away. It may be so we are prepared to say our good byes should we find ourselves staring death in the face.
Midnight musings.
You answered your damn question.
@asmonet I think this is meant to be a discussion.
When swallowing poisons, one needs to figure out if vomiting it out would do more damage than continued ingestion. So it is with trauma.
It’s always nice to have a clean colon.
@phoebusg I was referring to: but in relation to the drama it generally refers to an emotional result that derives from strong feelings such as great sorrow, fear, pity, laughter, or any other extreme change in emotion;
By that definition of the underpinnings of Catharsis is what big time politicians place their bets to further their political agendas. Obama has been master at Catharsis.
I found Dungeon’s And Dragon’s helpful….even If I’m playing alone and just making character sheets in my mind
@asmonet also, the question is not to provide a definition of Catharsis. Though one seems to be necessary, rather – discuss its effects and significance.
