I take it. I had heard it lowers your cholesterol. Mine was high, 248 and I took it for 3 months and had it checked again. My cholesterol was 208 this time. I’m not positive that is what lowered it, but that was my only change in diet or exercise.

“In a study of resveratrol and its metabolites, the metabolites were found to peak after 60 minutes. On the other hand, the same study on trans resveratrol showed that the metabolites peaked at only 30 minutes. It’s unknown whether its greater bioavailability makes a difference in how well it functions as an active product.

Studies in humans on trans-resveratrol are few and far between. It’s the metabolites of these substances that hang around most of the time and it isn’t known how effective these metabolites are in being good antioxidants.

Resveratrol is also known as 3,4,5-trihydroxystilbene—one of many compounds called stilbenes made by plants in response to UV radiation, stress, infection or injury. It is fat soluble so it is best absorbed in a micronized or enteric-coated form. It came to the attention of the medical community after it was found in red wine—long known to prolong life in those who drink it regularly. Since its discovery in 1992, it is believed to be the cause of the “French Paradox”, in which the French live longer and have less heart disease than Americans and other Europeans who do not drink much red wine.”

I an attempt to stave off the effects of the cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure I have as the result of exposure to Agent Orange during my two years in Vietnam, I take two “EZMelts” tablets of resveratrol every morning, along with a number of other dietary supplements. It’s difficult to attribute the cancer being in remission, or the diabetes and high blood presssure being under control to any one supplement or medication, but I am convinced they at least helped. : )

@marinelife @chyna @CaptainHarley Where do you get yours from? I’ve been wanting to take it for a while.

chyna's avatar

I’ve bought mine from Vitamin World, a chain vitamin store and from drugstore.com.

Thank you all.
I saw it on line at wallmart for $4.99. I will order it tomorrow. I just have one more thing to take. That is a pain.
LOL we don’t have a local walmart the community blocked it.

BTW… be warned. There are a lot of scammers out there trying to take advantage of this stampede on resveratrol. In only the second time in about 20 years of being online, I was scammed by an outfit called “Resveratrol Ultra,” which repeatedly made unauthorized charges to my credit card.

I would like to see a study done by an objective outside source.
@CaptainHarley I want to believe.
My problem is I get stressed out.
I don’t believe in miracles.

CaptainHarley's avatar

Resveratrol is deiniftely NOT a miracle cure of any sort. They just seem to help a bit, like lots of other things .. such as chocolate, which they now find helps vein and artery health, among other things. Milk chocolate doesn’t help, by the way, but any chocolate that’s at least 70% cocao definitely does.

@CaptainHarley
Yes I know about chocolate. I really do eat properly. I try to maintain a low gylermic index.
I hope you know I appreciate your response. It is a pleasure to see a post from you. My friend from AB.

@philosopher

Thank you so much. I catch an awful lot of flack from both the right and left for my stand on a number of issues. It’s nice to know someone appreciates what I post. : ))

@CaptainHarley
I know what you mean.
Narrow minded morons are blissfully ignorant.
I remind them of how Nancy Regan learned. This is my message to the R wing. To the L I point out that placating terrorist does not work.
The problem is a lack of common sense. A lack of moderation and balance. A lack of desire to help American’s

@Philosopher

Exactly. The ideologues of both left and right seem more concerned with their ideology than with either the republic or its people.
