Do you consistently get questions in your "Questions for you" box that you not only have absolutely zero interest in, but that you sometimes actually find offensive?

There is nothing in my profile that would suggest that I would be the slightest bit interested in questions about oral sex and masturbation, but I just deleted three of them in a row. What’s up with that?

I’ve always absolutely HATED that feature! How can anyone presume to know what question would interest me? I usually just delete the whole shebang & start over with the home questions. This has always pissed me off.
I assumed the questions you got were based on the questions you answered and the areas of interest you put in your profile. But there must be something else going on, because the questions I get don’t seem to have any rhyme or reason to them that I can see.
I don’t look anymore after the one about….—I can’t tell ya.It’s dirty!—lol!
I feel it gives me the opportunity to jump in and sound off with my opinion. Whether it’s knowledgeable or not. Or even wanted.
Not offensive but certainly puzzling.Someone somewhere must be bored & relieving themselves, as it were, by playing the mischievious role at our expense.Bless, as long they’re happy eh.
You guys…this question got moved to the “Meta” category….what is that and where is that?
@stump I agree. 99% of them…I couldn’t care less about.
Yes!!!
I don’t care about what someone’s ex posted on facebook.
@jbfletcherfan For me, I can just ignore most of them, but when I get sent a question like the two I listed above, it’s insulting to me!
@Val123 meta is questions dealing with things about fluther. It can be found on the front page by clicking on the meta tab all the way to the right next to orphans.
I don’t see “meta”.—-?????
Let’s all meta up later for s&g!
@jbfletcherfan You’ll notice this Q isn’t coming up in the activity for you any more. At least, not in mine.
@uberbatman And the purpose for that is…? It appears to me that it’s just taken it out of the public eye….
@uberbatman Thanks…I see it now. I had to be on the home page. Duh…..
Oh to me it’s no big deal. I guess fluther is just trying to get as many people to answer. I do answer some of them and surprise myself. The others that are just USA based I delete.
@Val123 Yes, it’s still coming up in mine.
Hm. Not in mine! I feel like I’ve been punished for some reason! (I pm’d the Great A….)
I haven’t been offended, but I am a bit curious as to how a question about women’s hairstyles ended up in my “Questions for you”.
It depends too on how the asker tagged the question. A question about oral sex may include a tag like “relationships”, and any one who’s answered a few “relationships” questions in the past will get that question referred to them.
@Harp Maybe I should quit answering questions! However, I did go into that one silly Q about sex=losing weight and responded, so I guess the system thinks I want smut questions now. I think they should do away with the feature.
WHY IS THIS NO LONGER COMING UP IN MY ACTIVITIES BOX? I’m having to leave a whole separate window open to see this!
@Val123 Did you click on Stop Following by accident?
I hardly think the questions here regarding sex could be considered ‘smut’. If I get a question that’s not for me, I just remove it and get on with my life. I don’t have much else to add, other than I find it interesting you find the rather benign sex questions here so offensive.
Also, clicking “Not interested” (instead of “Remove”) helps teach the bot what you don’t like.
@MissAnthrope “How do I break my habit of masturbating.” WTH kind of question is that??
@Val123 – It’s human sexuality, a valid enough question, but I sense that you and I will never be on the same page in this regard, so I’m not sure it’s worth the effort. Anyway, I’ve seen much worse (stupid, pointless, etc.) non-sexual questions here.
@MissAnthrope I agree. We’ll never be on the same page. My sex life and preferences are nobody’s business but mine, and I have zero interest in other people’s sex lives. I don’t get upset that the questions are asked. I just ignore them as I do the other stupid and pointless questions. It just bugged me that it got tossed into my “Questions for me” box.
I really do see the questions on here going south. If it’s not sex, it’s “how can I tell if he really likes me?” God save me! What drivel. It all just gets really old.
@jbfletcherfan Yeah! Like, “I call him twelve times a day, but he’s never home and he never returns my calls, but I’m pretty sure he really likes me. How can I get him to talk to me?”
Or, “Is stalking a bad thing?”
As @Harp mentioned, there are several factors that determine what questions get sent to you. The longer you’re here, the more questions you answer, the wider the variety you’ll get (unless you only ever answer, say, computer questions). Be sure to click on “not interested”, and over time the bot should ‘learn’ what not to send you.
Regarding ‘meta’ questions, any question that’s about Fluther ends up on this page. You should still be getting it in your ‘activity for you’, though. I’m not sure what’s up with that. Sorry! Signed, the Not-So-Great A. :)
@augustlan Thanks…I’ll remember that. (And FYI, you’re a Grade-A-Great-A! You’re right up there with the best eggs in the universe!)
@Val123 If you have the window open, you’re not going to get new activity on it, since you’re still in the question.
O! @andrew! What a surprise. OK. That explains it all and makes perfect sense. Thank you.
Now, what’s the explanation for JustJustine’s ghostly orange light?
And why can’t RandomMrdan find her car? Ah the mysteries on Fluther. :)
They are trying to tell you something ;)
@Steve_A Yeah, like, I’m not the person I thought I was!
@Val123 lol Who is the real Val huh?
@Steve_A I don’t know, but I’m not sure I like her! We have nothing in common!
