What do you think about napping?
I love to nap. I have 4 high school classes in a row. (Period 1, 2, 3, lunch) and then I have the rest of the afternoon off. However, I go to the gym right after my lunch class and finish up at about 3 or 4. When I get home, I feel somewhat tired and so I eat a bit and then I nap. When I do nap, the time ranges from 15 minutes to 2 hours or more.
Do you nap? And for how long? Do you think napping is bad, or does it have it’s benefits?

I’m jealous of people who can nap. I’ve never been good at it- even as an infant. Nowadays it just gives me a raging headache.
Rarely. It messes up my sleep at night.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Mwa-what? Oh. Yeah, I like naps.
Napping is quite possibly one of the most underrated activities life has to offer. I take one everyday that I am able to, usually for about 45 min. After my nap, I grab a cup of coffee and feel amazing until it’s time to go to bed.
I nap waaay too much but I love them. I nap between almost every class in college haha. When I take short naps I feel good after, but sometimes I’ll take naps up to three hours and feel even more tired/dead when I wake up…plus I just wasted 3 hours when I didn’t really need to. Ill take more in the winter though…the concept of being all cozy under my blankets when its cold out makes me fall asleep every time.
I do it daily. Spoils the day if I have to skip my treasured nap. :-)
I never tried it until my senior year of highschool. Now I’m hooked. Better go check myself into rehab.
My sleep schedule is incredibly screwed up and I have to take naps. I have four classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 12 noon and then from 7 to 10 pm. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I just have one class, but I spend most of the rest of the day doing homework for the Tuesday and Thursday classes. I have to nap, and usually for several hours to even feel remotely satisfied.
Napping allows me to further my Fluther!!
napping is amazinggggg and my favorite part of any day :) i don’t always like waking up though!
I love to nap. But I try not to too much because I will sleep for like 3 hours, and that kinda messes me up when I have to get to sleep at a descent hour at night. I end up tossing and turning for hours.
I wish I could nap. Unfortunately, I simply cannot fall asleep when there is daylight out. The only times I actually fall asleep during the day is when I’m either really sick or really exhausted.
I was told once, that unless you get at least 90 minutes of sleep, a nap will only make you more tired
For me it’s a necessary evil since I often have to go long periods of time between bedtimes.
These days, I’ll grab anywhere from a 30 minute to a 2 hours nap, and it definitely is refreshing.
Oh yeah! I love naps.
I’ll often eat at my desk then nap in my car at lunch.
One day a week I work from 8AM to 10PM, so that’s a big nap day.
It’s good for your brain and physical growth. Although I will advice you to have some sound sleep at night for at least 8 hours. Same goes for me. :) Hope you got it.
I don’t really do it anymore. I did all the time as a little kid and even a little bit older, but I just don’t seem to do it anymore. My boyfriend loves to nap, but I just don’t do it. I’ve tried it and I just need more darkness to fall asleep and it seems to just make me more tired. I get enough sleep as it is.
Napping is supposed to be very healthy, good for blood pressure and mental health. If I ever do it hasn’t helped my mental health- I feel grouchy plus tired.
I think napping is great, when you can! My dad, a doctor, used to be a devotee of the afternoon nap (on weekends, after a sandwich and beer, what a luxury!)—which, I discovered later, is also recommended by the Ayurvedic tradition (eastern medicine) for the physiology of the body and the recharge of the mind.
The siesta is practiced in many forms throughout the world (from Europe, in Italy; throughout warm places like the islands of the South Pacific to East Asia, in India—where ayurvedic medicine recommends you lay on a particular side after eating for better digestion).
ON a personal level, when I was working as a horse wrangler (quite physical) and training as a competitive canoe paddler for a long-distance race, I used to take a short nap before practice and it really helped my performance.
I now work in television and film, and we often work outrageously long hours—so a 15–30 minute nap can get you through a long shoot; I have heard 38 minutes is the max you wanna ‘nap’ because if you stay asleep longer, you switch gears and go into a deeper level in your sleep cycle, and therefore will feel grumpy for being interrupted if that gets cut short.
Nap time also in kindergarten (and pre-school) seems pretty essential to keeping the peace and replenishing the brain trust!
I HAVE to nap because working nightshift really screws up what you call “Normal sleep” I never sleep a consecutive 8 hours anymore. I usually sleep between 4–5 hours in the morning and 2–3 in the evening. So in effect, I have to nap to make sure i’m getting enough sleep.
Not on purpose but I’m an old girl so sometimes they sneak up on me and get me.
napping is the shizz :D I just read an article yday about the benefits of napping in relation to reducing heart diseases by 34%. something which is so enjoyable and good for your health. napping is WIN.
I do tend to nap when I am not at work. Often on weekends (or any weekdays I happen to have off work) I will nap for about an hour in the afternoons. I tend to have a lot of nervous energy and it makes me very tired so even if I have had a good nights sleep I feel the need to have a little nap. I enjoy it and I figured an hour a day is not a bad thing.
Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things that escape those who dream only at night.
Or so said some creepy depressed chronic alcoholic, but he’s totally right. It’s so different.
I think it’s awesome.
I work 4 pm to 2 am. My dogs demand to be fed/walked at 8:00 am. If I didn’t nap I couldn’t function.
Naps are my most favorite thing to do…...after sex!
