Why is nudity such a prominent theme at Carnavale?

There are a lot more nudist than most people want to admit.

I do nude photography and have more volunteer models than you can click a shutter at…

It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it.

I’ve been looking for a new hobby.

A fine prominent nipple on a firm pert breast…sorry distracted there a touch.

All Carnivals, all festivals are examples of liminal events, events where people can act out their transgressions (to many, nudity is it) so that at the end of these events, they and their beings can be re-appropriated into the norms of society…I am partial to Mikhail Bakhtin’s work

Otherwise why bother having a Carnavale?? Winter Carnavales are my favorite!! Face down snow Angels!

Carnavale precedes a period of traditional penitence and self-denial leading up to Easter in Catholic countries. Sexual and other acting out prior to this period of Lent are given into with the anticipation of later forgiveness.

As @Dr_Lawrence and @Simone_De_Beauvoir pointed out this is a period for cutting loose and pushing social boundaries. The interesting thing is that nudity is everywhere today so it is no longer unconventional. When you can turn on the TV in mid afternoon and see Paris Hilton in a string bikini humping a car while eating a burger. a girl dancing in feathers is hardly shocking, Nudity at Carnavale is becoming a quaint little tradition.
