Should I go and see Avatar at the cinema, or wait until it is on DVD?

Asked by elinoree (11points) February 21st, 2010

I have the choice of either seeing Avatar in 3D at the Cinema before the running time finishes, or too wait until it is on DVD. Or is it a complete time waste in the first place?

Avatar in 3-D was one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced in my life. You should see it on a big 3-D screen.

Really? So your advice would be too go then?

Most definitely. High if possible.

Go see it on the big screen. It’s one of those things that is going to lose a lot in translation from the big screen to the small screen. If you don’t see it big and in 3D, there is a good chance you’ll never really get what all the fuss was about.

Definitely go. It’s made to be seen in 3d.

GO TO THE CINEMA

There’s no point in seeing it on DVD. You’ll realize how terrible a movie it actually is if the 3D isn’t there to distract you. But it is a lot of fun in theaters.

Okay, thanks for all the answers. I will try and go too the cinema sometime this week/ next week and watch the film in 3D. Does anyone know if they still do 2D showings though, because I have heard some of the 3D effects used in the film have made people depressed and I am a little worried about this?

I would suggest going to the movies, you will likely only want to see it once.

Cinema in 3-D. I-max if possible

@elinoree 3D effects have made people depressed? WTF? Where have you heard this?

EmpressPixie's avatar

@elinoree They only made people depressed in that the world is so beautiful, yet not real. It’s an aspect of how well put together the 3D movie is. As well as an aspect of a utopian dream. It’s about physical beauty and mental beauty—but more the mental aspect.

ChaosCross's avatar

@elinoree they were actually depressed because they were sad blue people did not exist and that they could only dream of “connecting hair” with each other.

I havent seen it but everyone I’ve heard who’s seen it says its a spectacular visual experience in the theaters.
I’m a little off put by all those same movie patrons telling me just how vapid they thought the storyline was.
Neytiri’s pretty hot if you’re in to aliens.

Here’s another vote for in the theaters. I saw it in 2D, and not in 3D, but it was still amazing. I’m considering going back for the 3D experience.

I vote for the theater. Unless you have a projector or super large wide screen hdtv at home, you should go ahead and have the theater experience with this movie. I watched in 3D.

I went to see it today in 3D and it is brilliant. I recommend yoou go and see it because you need the big screen to get the full effect, you don’t get that when you watch a DVD unless you have a cinema in your house.

@Captain_Fantasy I thought the pilot girl was waaaaaay hotter than Neytiri!
